you and me - lifehouse
"You know that was a stupid thing to do, right?" I asked Dean on the drive back to the Mikaelson house. Dean just laughed, but didn't really answer. Sam turned on the radio to fill the silence.
Back at the house, Elijah chastised Dean for going after them without telling any of us. The rest of us listened quietly, until Klaus entered the room to join us.
"Give it a rest, brother," Klaus said, exasperated. He threw Dean an ice pack, which he caught, pressing it to his knuckles. "Everyone in this room knows they would have done the same."
"I don't know," Janelle sighed. "It was pretty reckless."
"I think it was what they deserved," Sam mumbled. Klaus smiled at him.
"It was kind of stupid," I said. "What if they had overpowered you?"
"I was doing alright," Dean huffed.
I leaned forward, my hands on my knees, so I could look at him directly. "Andrew was on top of you when we got there."
"But I was fine!" his voice rose. "What can I say? You caught me at a bad time. But I was doing fine. Look," he gestured to his face. "Do you see any cuts? Bruises? Black eyes?"
"Actually," I ran my fingers along a light bruise beginning to form on his jaw. "You have a bruise here."
He leaned into my touch before getting up and moving to sit next to me. "Okay, but did you see them?"
I smiled, shaking my head and pecking his lips. "Look, I know you can handle yourself, but, what if you couldn't?"
"Then Klaus would have helped me kick ass," Dean grinned, leaning back and smiling at Klaus. "Thank you for that, by the way."
Klaus returned the smile. "Anytime."
Janelle sighed. "Okay, well," she said as she stood up. "I think we could all use a goodnight's sleep."
"I agree," Sam sighed. Elijah followed Janelle out of the living room and up the stairs, leaving Sam, Dean, Klaus, and me in the living room.
"I'm going to sleep too," Sam stood up, taking a few steps and stopping to look at his brother. "You're sure you're okay?"
Dean nodded, smiling. "I'm fine."
Sam gave a small smile, crossing the room to hug his brother. "Thank you."
Dean hugged Sam tightly. "Anytime, Sammy."
Sam pulled away, wishing us a goodnight before going up the stairs.
"I suppose that's my cue," Klaus grinned. He stood up, clasping Dean's shoulder. "For the record, you could have taken them without the extra help. But, I'm happy to supply the extra help when it's needed. Or when it's not."
"Thank you, Klaus."
"Goodnight, Dean." he looked at me, smiling. "Goodnight, Audrey."
"And then there were two," Dean said when Klaus disappeared up the stairs. He leaned back, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me closer to him. He hid his face in the crook of my neck, placing one kiss on my neck before whispering, "I hope you're not mad."
"Why would I be mad?"
"Because it was kind of stupid," he sighed, sitting up. "I had no idea if I would be able to take them. And maybe Klaus is right- Maybe I could have taken them all by myself. But, to be honest, I'm kind of glad you guys came to help."
"I didn't go to help you fight them," I said honestly. "I went to make sure you were okay."
He smiled, leaning in to kiss me. I kissed him back, pulling away after a few moments had passed. "You're okay, right? No concussion or anything?"
Dean laughed quietly. "I'm okay, I promise."
"Good," I kissed him again, just a quick peck that time. "I should probably get ready for bed,"
"Yeah, me too," he said as he leaned in to reconnect our lips.
I leaned back, bringing him with me. A couple moments passed before I stopped him. "We should probably go to bed."
"I'm all for moving this upstairs," he teased, laughing as he pressed another kiss to my lips.
"Dean!" I laughed, pushing his shoulder lightly. He smiled, sitting up.
"Sorry," he chortled.
"Goodnight," I smiled, giving him one last kiss. I stood up to go upstairs, but he grabbed my wrist to stop with me.
"Sleep with me."
"Oh, uh..." I trailed off, shaking my head. "No, I'm, uh..."
"No, Audrey," Dean laughed lightly, standing me up and pulling me towards him. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pressing his lips to the top of my head. "I mean just sleep."
My eyes flashed to his, my cheeks heating up.
"You don't have to," he smiled. "Sorry if that-"
"No, I want to," I said, nodding. "Just sleep, right?" I asked quietly.
"Just sleep, baby." he reassured, kissing the top of my head again.

Three hours later, it was four am, and I was still wide awake. Dean was asleep beside me, his arm wrapped loosely around my waist. I sighed, trying desperately to get some sleep.
"Audrey?" Dean whispered, his voice barely audible.
"Yes?"
"Are you awake?"
"Yes."
He sighed, rolling over and turning on a lamp. "I can't sleep."
"Me neither." I sat up at the same time he did.
"Too much on your mind?" he teased. I chortled, shaking my head slightly.
"I don't even know."
"Yeah, I know the feeling." He bit his lip, checking the clock. "Come on, let's go."
"Where are we going?"
"To the cliff."
