She is so beautiful. Even in the moonlight, there's a certain glow about her, as if the moon was shining for her and her only. Tears are forming in her eyes and I feel every piece of my heartbreaking. I never want to see her in pain. "I could never forget you," I say lovingly while reaching out to hold her hand. I wipe a tear from her face as she leans in close to me; our foreheads touching. We don't say anything. We don't move. I purr instinctively, hoping she doesn't hear.
Suddenly the ground beneath us starts to rumble violently. "Uh-oh," she groans. "What? What's happening?" I shriek. "I'm sorry Catra," she says sadly as a golden staff appears in her hand, "It's time for me to go." As she's speaking, a tall man with strange markings filling both of his arms appears in front of her. "There you are! You know you can't be here. Let's go," he says forcibly while grabbing her by the shoulder. "I didn't think anyone would be awake", the girl says, but this time I don't recognize her. She's transformed into a completely different person. She looks back at me and waves her hand goodbye. The strange man suddenly pulls her by the hand and I yell, "Wait! You never told me your name", "Kagami," she says sweetly as she and the man disappear with a sparkling purple flash of light.
"Kagami," I say to myself smiling softly. Confused by what had just happened, I start making my way back home. In all of my years on Etheria, all my years in Bright Moon, I've never heard of a kingdom called Jonetsu, I think to myself.
Finally, reaching the doors of the palace, the guards turn to open the big doors to let me in. Even though it's late, the palace is still bustling with activity. Glimmer, Bow, and Adora come rushing up to me. "Where have you been?" they say in perfect unison. "Out," I reply annoyed, "What's the big deal?" "Criminals have been spotted in the Whispering Woods and we aren't sure of what they're after" Glimmer speaks up with concern in her voice. "Criminals?" I snap, "What do these supposed criminals look like?" I question sarcastically. "We really don't know but witnesses say they saw a girl in a white hooded sweatshirt and report multiple flashes of light," says Bow. "Kagami," I say a little too loudly. "You know the criminal?" yells Adora. "She's not a criminal okay?" I yell back, "She was just --" I pause, "lost" I finish sheepishly. "Right. Lost. Well, who is she?" snaps Adora.
"What do you guys know about the Kingdom of Jonetsu?" I ask cautiously. "The what?" Bow questions. "I've heard of it," says Glimmer, "it was rumored to be a village full of criminals and outlaws. It was said to be a colony of traitorous first ones. But we haven't heard from them in like 18 years since the sudden disappearance of their queens. What do you know about the Kingdom of Jonetsu?" she finishes looking me up and down. "Nothing," I say, "It's just, Kagami said it was her home" I finish quietly. "So she IS a criminal," Adora shouts. "I never said that," I yell, tears starting to form. I turn to run away. "Catra!" I hear them cry behind me.
I run and run until I'm out of breath and far out of sight of anyone who may see or hear me. I fall to the ground, hugging myself with my tail, and begin to cry. I don't understand. Kagami isn't a criminal. Right? And even if she was, what could she possibly be after? I wish I could see her again. I wish I could ask her what was going on. My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of distant footsteps and I immediately jump up beginning to run again.
I make my way to my room and lock the door behind me. I sit on my bed bringing my knees to my chest and wrapping my tail around my waist. I've never been more confused in my life. I had only just met this girl and I feel like I've known her forever. I lay back and let my thoughts flow. I think of Kagami; her laugh, her warm mismatched eyes, her long black curly hair, and her scent. She smells as beautiful as she looks. The scent is something like a mix of berries and vanilla, unlike anything I've ever smelled before. How could someone so beautiful possibly be a criminal? I think to myself as I feel my eyes closing and I realize how truly tired I am. "Kagami," I whisper as I drift away to sleep.
