Jackie decided against taking the strange items. After everything that's happned so far, he wasn't going to take that chance.

He took in a long breath of air, letting the  smell of the house into his lungs. However, he immediately regretted that, mostly becuase the smell of the house was that of dirt, mold, and rotted eggs.

Standing up from the dining table, he decided to go upstairs. He hadn't heard anything strange coming from up there yet. And besides, maybe there was a way out.

Placing the key to the strage pantry back into his pocket, at walks around the table and back into the living room. From there, he quietly makes his way to the hallway that was by the front door.

He gently places his foot on the first stair, slowly applying more pressure. Once he was sure he wouldn't go through the board, he put all his weight onto it.

The stair let out a groan, breaking the still silence that was through the house. Jackie took a quick breath of air in to keep from letting out any sort of sounds.

Carefully, he stepped on the other stairs. They to let out creaks of protest, but none were as loud as the first. After making it to the top step, Jackie looked around.

There were four doors on the second floor, along with a small square in the ceiling that Jackie assumed lead to the attic.

The doors were all a dark wood, which had chipped away over time. The ground was coated in a thick layer of dust, and large cobwebs hung in the corners. The wallpaper had yellowed and peeled away, letting the off white walls be exposed.

At least, Jackie thought they were off white. He assumed that had been the color before time had to turned them yellow.

There was a small light fixture on the ceiling, casting just barely enough light in the room. Jackie hadn't remembered turning on -or even seeing- any light switches, but quickly brushed that out of his mind. There were other things to worry about than why this light was on.

As Jackie looked around the second floor, he remembered the outside of the house.

Just above the front entrance was a  balcony that seemingly had no doors. From the direction the came up, he assumed the door furthest to him had the room with the balcony.

The quickly made his way over to the door, hearr pounding. He knew it was a long shot, considering this house seemed to be beyond the means of normal, but he at least had to try escaping again.

Just as he made it to the door, a sound from the other end of the floor came. Jackie froze in place with his hand just about to touch the knob.

The sound came again, louder. It was almost like someone was knocking something over in the room right at the top of the stairs.

Open the door or Investigate the sound?
