Stars of Our History

Oikawa Tooru
Past Tense
Eleven Winters Ago

Tooru giggled as he snuck his way through the castle, the moonlight gleaming through the windows. The only sound that could be heard was his tiny footsteps and the crashing water coming from the waterfalls.

Not even the guards stood on duty, they almost never did. Seijou was one of the safest places ever, protected by the dragons and cliffs. Whoever chose to reach their land had to face either or both.

Tooru peered out of the windows as he passed them, gasping with delight when he heard a roar come from one of the dragons. Most were sleeping, but some still flew high in the sky. It was beautiful, watching as their large wings spread through the night sky.

Oh what it would be like to fly, high up in the heavens.

Tooru only giggled more as he raced down the corridors, climbing the thousands of steps built into the mountain before reaching the highest balcony of the castle. The wind blew against his face harshly, the air thinner from where he stood. The icy cold breeze turned his cheeks pink, his eyes watering from the sharpness of it.

Up here, Tooru could see all the stars in the sky. They shined brightly, reflecting against the ocean in such a magical way. The waters of Seijou were so clear that the ocean floor was visible in the more shallow areas. It's soft blue color complimenting the light of the stars beautifully.

Tooru smiled at the sight before him, his cheeks resting in his palms.

"You're gonna freeze to death."

Tooru almost shrieked... almost. But the wind was so strong he ended up just gasping before falling into a coughing fit. He spun around to see Hajime perched up on the ledge of the balancing.

"Hajime!" Tooru hissed, "you scared me! How'd you even get up here?!"

Hajime quirked a brow, tilting his head forward as he gave Tooru an unimpressed look. Tooru blinked, realization hitting him before he giggled. "Oh.. right."

Tooru stared at Hajime with curiosity, his eyes running over the scales that traveled down the boys neck and disappeared beneath his tunic shirt. They were a dark, the deepest color of black, shimmering silver in the moonlight.

Hajime was one of the few dragons he knew. While they shared the same land as the dragons, the humans and them didn't tend to cross paths much. Only every once in a while would the humans and dragons get together. They would celebrate the day the Nervem Treaty was signed, and whenever they declared the next Gaurdian of Seijou.

The next one in line would be Hajime.

"Why are you up so late? The rest of the humans are sleeping aren't they?"

Tooru rolled his eyes, "well duh, it's night time. But I wanted to watch the stars! Papa says that tonight the stars of Zmaj will be visible."

Hajime hummed, eyes casting upwards. Tooru studied the boys face. They were the same age, but Hajime always acted so much more mature. Tooru always wondered if it was a dragon thing, or if Hajime was just boring like that. Either way, it intrigued the boy.
