Halloween was her favorite holiday, and Remus didn't quite understand it. He wasn't a big fan of it. Especially since there were a lot of muggles who would dress as werewolves every year, which he didn't like seeing.
But he always found her fondness of the holiday cute, because she was so serious about it every year. Even when they were still back at Hogwarts. Her parents would send her little decorations for her dorm and she encouraged everyone else to participate.
So he wasn't surprised that one of the first things she wanted to do with their new cottage, was decorate it for Halloween, which was just around the corner.
The sun was beginning to set on the beautiful village of Godric's Hollow. The leaves already changing color at a rapid pace even though it was only the beginning of October.
Y/N stood outside their cottage, placing her finger on her chin as she thought about where to set everything up. Remus walked out of the front door, carrying a box full of decorations. The autumn air hit his face and he was actually beginning to feel a little bit excited about decorating.
When he stood next to her, he asked, "Don't you think it's kind of odd we're putting up decorations when we're still eating dinner on the floor?" She didn't look at him but placed her hand over his mouth.
"Shhh, I'm thinking."
"About what?"
"Where to place the pumpkins of course." She bent over and picked up an already carved pumpkin and handed it to him. As he looked at the terrible pumpkin he had carved the day before he winced.
"Do we really have to put this out here?" He turned it back over to her. She rolled her eyes. "Of course we do. We only have four pumpkins and I'm not wasting them. Plus, yours is very nice." He sighed, giving in and placed the pumpkin on their front steps.
"See! It's cute." She smiled.
"If you say so."
She fished through the box and pulled out a couple of paper decorations of black cats and handed them to him.
"I still can't believe how many decorations you own." He picked them up and placed them around the yard. One under a tree, the other by their front door, and another hidden in the bushes.
"Well, my parents are also big fans of Halloween, and they're muggles of course. When I got my Hogwarts letter I almost cried because I thought I was going to look like this." She pulled up another paper decoration, but this time it was of a witch on a broom with green skin and warts all over her face.
"Should we even put that up here?" He scratched the back of his neck nervously, scared the other wizards in the village would be offended. "We probably shouldn't." She sighed and placed the decoration back into the box.
"Well, don't worry, we still have many more decorations." He pulled out a small ceramic ghost and placed it next to the pumpkin he carved. "It's all coming together." She sighed happily, staring at him wearing his red sweater, perfectly fitting into the autumn atmosphere.
She pulled out one of the final decorations which was a bunch of muggle horror film characters on a string to hang across the door.
"Oh Merlin Y/N, don't hang that." He says, trying to get it out of her grasp. "Why not? They're great films." He thought about how sometimes on Halloween she would bring a muggle horror film for everyone to watch.
He stared at the decoration, eyeing down Leatherface as if the paper was real. "Oh stop it, Remus. They're not real." She says, shaking the decoration in his face. "He's not going to show up at our house with a chainsaw."
Remus felt a chill run up his spine thinking about when they watched the film. "But what if he does..." Remus leads on, "He'll show up and suddenly it won't be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre it will be Godric's Hollow Chainsaw Massacre."
"You're such a wuss." She scoffed. "Remus, you're in the order of the phoenix, you could literally die on almost any trip you go on, and you're scared of a fictional character?"
"He has a chainsaw!"
She rolled her eyes so hard he could almost hear it. "I'm hanging it up anyways." "It'll scare the kids away." He says, nudging her shoulder. "Good. More candy for us."
After a couple more minutes, they put the last few pumpkins in place and here they stood staring at the house. "It's not much, but I still like it." She said, looking at the leaves falling from the trees.
"You know Y/N, I might just like Halloween now." She looked back at him with a shocked face. "Now? Have you been lying to me all these years?" He shrugged, but she already knew his answer.
"Even if you're lying to me right now, and you still don't like Halloween in the future, I'm still making you decorate every year."
"I'm fine with that." He says, giving her a smile. "We're keeping Leatherface and Carrie though, every year." "Does that mean we have to watch Carrie and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre every year too?" He winced.
"Of course it does." She strode back into the house.
"Now... where is the box with all of the CD's?"
