Ambush

"Shut it, you rat," General Galeforce growled.

"Don't shoot her, dad! Please!" Charles cried.

The gun was lowered from her head.

Ellie freed herself from Galeforce's grip, and retreated to Henry's side.

"Formalities, sir," she said sharply as Henry took a step closer to her.

"Look, Galeforce, it's a real honor and all, for you to be concerned about us, but you need to leave."

"Let Charlie go, and I'll call this whole mission. You're not that much of a monster to risk the lives of your whole clan, right?"

The General raised his gun, but so did Ellie.

"If you pull that trigger, I'll pull mine," the redhead snarled. "Then we'll both lose someone."

"Put your gun down! Henry, do something!" Charles begged.

Henry had been motionless, probably not with fear as he had been threatened with a gun many times before.

Then he smirked, looking at Charles.

"What's the magic word?" he teased.

"Henry, this is serious!" Charles snapped. "Do something about this before it gets messy!"

Henry still didn't do anything.

"Ugh... Please?"

"There you go." Henry's smirk only got more annoying, and Charles really wanted to slap it off his face, but with Ellie right there with a gun ready, it wouldn't likely be accepted. "You heard him, Ellie."

Ellie grumbled and sheathed her gun again.

"Dad, please, don't shoot them," Charles pleaded. "They're my friends. All of them."

"Give my son back to me, you slimy traitor," General Galeforce barked.

"No can do. He's the Toppats' territory now."

"Territory?!"

Charles wanted, more than anything, to show off what years of government training looked like, but as per usual, that was not permitted.

He wished he had a helicopter he could crash, just to get his anger out, but since he didn't, he just sighed and stood there.

"Dad, I've made up my mind. I... I want to stay with the Toppat clan."

"What?!"

Both Henry and the General were surprised, and they had expressed it in unison.

"Just... Give me a few seconds to say goodbye."

"Granted."
