A Game of Trust

Rights and freedom

 It abhors thee

It taunts those without moral compass

It attacks those who think they know it.

 Empty and forgotten words

 Rights and freedom

It has vanished in a puff of smoke

It has been devoured by corruption.

 Tell me Mr. President

What say you?

What is the meaning of such betrayal?

 I thought you were better.

 I guess I was wrong

Such is the nature of one's people

 We are naive

We fell into a web of lies.

Why must we be the puppets?

Why must we be fed venomous words?

That fills the minds of a nation?

 Why Mr. President?

 I sent a letter

 A simple piece of paper

It used real ink

 An extinct thing.

I brought upon a sombre morrow

To detest thou

 And his mistakes

 And all his pointless dribble.

 I know what you did

I've looked through your mask

To see the true face of a liar

That makes me feel sick.

You listened to our every word

Looked at us through a phone

Wearing a gentle mask

That made us feel safe.

But Mr. President that too was a lie

We do not feel safe

For if one cannot trust his people

Than who are we to you?

Are we so untrustworthy

 So detestable to you

That you hung us out to dry

And shamed us for all to see?

 It's sickening

 It's despicable

What other lies do you hide

What secrets taint your black heart?

 I ponder the question

 I think for a moment

Or are you prying into my thoughts too

 Because that's what you do.

Home is our sanctity

Our place of well kept secrets

 Of love and faith

And you stole that from us.

We have no privacy

No home

No way to tell what you listen to

We cannot hide from a heretic.

If one cannot trust one's nation

Then what is he good for?

What are we good for?

Nothing...just nothing, that's what.

 Goodbye Mr. President

You broke my heart

 Destroyed my inner sanctum

And hung me out to dry.

You have heard all my secrets

Tore the wall of privacy

 And now you know

 What say you Mr. President?
