Derek POV
My youngest child, Ellis, is starting her internship today. I can't believe it! I saw her as she entered the hospital this morning, she looks so much like Mer, it's crazy.
Ellis was born just after my accident, I wasn't sure I was going to live, but after Meredith whispered in my ear while I was unconscious that she was pregnant, I knew I had to wake up and be there for my baby.
FLASHBACK
*crash!* I was sitting in my car, ready to call Mer to tell her I was coming home, that I didn't want to be away from my family any longer, when the semi came out of nowhere and hit my car.
I was trapped. Stuck underneath the debris and parts of my car as someone called 911. The last thing I remember before I woke up at Dillard was someone dialing the phone and it ringing.
I was choking, gagging on the intubation tube stuck down my throat. I knew I needed to wake up, for Mer, for Amelia because I knew she couldn't lose another man in her life, and for my kids. Zola, Bailey, and the baby.
I looked around me, not recognizing the unfamiliar scenery around me. I knew it wasn't SGMW Hospital. That was where I needed to be.
All of a sudden, Mer was there, I was being transported to Seattle Grace, and then I passed out.
I woke up in a bed, after Tom Koracick had operated on a massive hematoma in my brain, seeing Mer, Amelia, Mark, Lexie, and my kids there.
"Mer," I whispered, "you're pregnant, right?"
"How did you know?" she questioned.
"You told me in a dream." I replied.END OF FLASHBACK
Ellis was one of the things that forced me to get better after the accident. It was hard, at first, especially with all of my sisters here. Lizzie, Kathleen, and Nancy all came down to see me. My mom came as well. She was allowed to stay longer than the rest because she was actually helpful.
I saw her, with her group of interns and waved her over.
"Hey, Elle! How's it going so far?" I asked.
"Oh, just peachy. Everyone is talking about me behind my back-about how I'm 'royally inbred' or whatever." she responded sarcastically.
"Yeah, they said that about your mom when she first started here. But she was only Ellis Grey's daughter, she didn't have as many relatives here are you do."
"Have you seen Zola yet today?" she asked. "I wonder how she's doing now that she's an attending! An Bailey in his second year of residency."
"Zola is good! I saw her this morning when she walked in. All new attendings are required to come see me, so she did! And as for Bailey, I'm 99% sure he slept here last night due to his patient or whatever." My pager starts beeping. "Dammit! Someone's aneurysm blew! Page my sister! Page A. Shepherd! Alright, Elle, I gotta run!"
"Bye dad! Good luck! Love you!"
"Love you Ellis! Good luck!" I hollered as I ran down the hallway.
