Virgil rose up in his room in front of his darkly colored door, letting a sigh escape from his lips that he didn't remember ever holding. He had just gotten back from a particularly stressful event with his host and famILY. Or, well, most of them. He had thought the moral side, Patton, had been with them until he quickly caught on that it was not him, but Deceit. Someone he despised. Someone he was repulsed by. Someone he hated. But also someone he wanted nothing more from then to be cuddled, hear their words of genuine affection, and deeply kissed by. He leaned against his door, tilting his head back and covering his mouth as tears pricked at the corner of his eyes. No, he couldn't think about this right now. Not when all these emotions that were too much for him were clouding his vision.
But, it would seem he wouldn't get that pleasure.
As Virgil pushed himself off the door, heading towards his bed to crash on it, he heard a side rise behind him. He didn't have to look to know who it was.
"I know you still love me." They softly side, and Virgil closed his eyes at a pathetic attempt to stop himself from crying. They walked closer to them, slowly turning him around to cup his face, and when he reluctantly opened his eyes, he was met with eyes so full of yearning, he felt as if he would fall over. "I can tell, Moonlight. You love me..."
"Stop it." Virgil murmured, feeling his heart squeeze at his own words. "Don't call me that. You know I can't handle it."
"Kitten-"
"I said stop it, Deceit," Virgil repeated, his voice more forceful as he took his hand up to Deceit, unable to force his hand off no matter how many times he told himself to. "We can't do this. Not... not again." He closed his eyes again, feeling tears fall from his mismatched eyes. He couldn't stand looking at his ex anymore. Not after knowing what he said was true. "...Never again. We... we didn't... don't, work together."
He could feel Deceit soften at his words. "Kit-... Virgil. Virgil, look at me." He said, so uncharacteristically quiet he couldn't help up comply to the request. For a few moments, the two sides simply stared at one another, unspeaking. Then, Deceit cupped the other side of his face, hesitated for a few moments, and slowly reached up, connecting their lips in a deep, yearning kiss.
And oh how that broke Virgil. In an instant, his weak defense crumpled to the ground in a pile of dust. He couldn't resist. He couldn't stop himself from kissing back, one hand tightly holding onto one of his while the other gripped the fabric of his shirt on his chest to pull him up closer to him. After the wanting, the desperation, the needing, the anxious side finally managed to force himself to push Deceit away. "Deceit... we can't do this to ourselves again. It wouldn't be fair to you or me." He whispered, staring down at his pained expression with his own, wanting nothing more then to get rid of the distance between them that was only inches, but felt like miles. "...I told you already, we don't work... We have to stop loving each other..."
Deceit softly sighed, reluctantly letting go of Virgil and taking a step backward. He could tell that the shorter side wanted to kiss him again, and part of him wished he had, but they knew it was for the best if they didn't. He shook his head, staring up at his ex. "I'm sorry, Darling, but I can't." He breathed. "I love you, and there's nothing you can do about it."
Without another word, he sunk out, leaving Virgil to break down crying only a few seconds later on the floor of his room. He hated how much he longed for Deceit to come back, wrap all six arms around him, and tell him he loved him again and again and again. But he knew it wouldn't happen, and it was for the best for such romantic gestures not to happen. He didn't need it. He didn't. Not at all.
He hoped the more he said it in his head, the more he would actually believe it, but that wish never seemed to come true.
