"Is this seat taken?"
Horace glanced up from his lunch to see, who he presumed to be, another kid in his grade. He had short, curly, and messy light brown locks with seemingly perfectly green colored eyes. Pale freckled skin, and a preppy, upbeat smile. He himself was like an opposite to him, appearance-wise, at least. Brown skin, a set of hazel and blue eyes, not a single freckle, and a snake bite piercing. The only thing they had in common was their short curly hair, but his was much darker than the stranger's.
After an uncertain amount of time, he snapped out of his daze, worried for a moment that he would be looking at him strangely for just staring at him, but if he was weirded out, he didn't show it. Finally, Horace shook his head. "No." He replied, almost sounding annoyed. "It's not."
"Great!"
The preppy boy plopped down beside him with his own tray of lunch, bringing up the number of people at Horace's table from one to two, at least for now.
"My name's Roman. Roman Grimm. I'm senior, how about you?"
"...Horace Fraus. Senior."
"Oh, that's right! We have Art and English together!"
"Yep."
"You want to sit by me? I'm pretty sure we're getting a huge partner project in Art that'll be due in a few months or so, and we could buddy up for that too? I heard you're super good!"
Horace's face ever so slightly flushed. "...Sure."

"Hey Horace!"
Horace turned around, surprised to have been called to. It was after school, which was not too long after Roman and he had turned in their project to Mx. Stokes. It was basically pouring down raining, so maybe walking home wasn't the best idea, but he had an umbrella, and he liked being able to properly smell and listen to the rain. He was lucky to have such waterproof black running shoes on today, or he knew his feet would be soaked. "Roman." The taller male greeted with a gentle smile on his face. He offered him a spot under his little relief from feeling the rain, and his friend gladly took it. He looked excited, but the apparent nervousness and almost fear on his face concerned him. "Is something wrong? Are you okay?"
"What? Oh, uh, yeah. I'm good. Peachy. Brilliant."
"Roman."
"Magnificent. Grand. Lovely."
"Roman. Spill."
Roman hesitated, taking a deep breath before nodding. "Horace, I... Would you like to go to the park with me this weekend...?"
Horace raised a slit eyebrow, slightly confused. Roman was this nervous? Over just a park visit? Was there something he was missing here? "A park visit?" He asked. "Sure. You didn't have to be so anxious over just that, we go to the park all the time-"
"-No, no I didn't mean that way." Roman interrupted, shaking his head and his hands in front of him. "I meant that, we could go pick up fast food and take it to the park for something like a... you know..."
"A date?"
Roman slowly nodded. "A date."
"...What time?"
"How about 5:30? At the park? I could pick you up to go get stuff to eat from there. Anything you want."
Horace softly laughed, shaking his head as he left a small smile spread on his lips.
"I'll be there."

It was eleven pm by the time Horace got home again. The date had been... amazing. He still felt a high from it that he never wanted to come down from.
The two had spent most of their time in the park, but since it was getting dark by the time they had come back with their food, (they compromised on getting burgers and fries by a nearby fast food restaurant) there was nearly no one there. Which, wasn't really a problem. In fact, Horace preferred it that way. Even though they were in public, they still felt like they were alone. That, just for that short period of time, they were in their own little personal bubble, free from stress and worry. His fingers slowly moved towards his neck to feel for a necklace, and soon, he was holding a small red heart locket. Roman had given it to him, as a first date present. Horace sighed with a smile, the other hand cupping his cheek. He swore, for as long as he was interested in Roman, he'd never take it off. Soon, the hand holding his check moves to grab his yellow phone that wasn't too far away. He knew that he should probably wait until tomorrow to text Roman... but he couldn't help himself. And it seemed he was experiencing the same thing.
< You: hey. had fun tonight >
< Roman: So did I !! We should go on another date sometime soon :) >
Horace quietly laughed, softening as he felt warm blush prick at his cheeks.
< You: i'll be waiting x >
< Roman: !! xx >
