I slowly walked down the gravel paths throughout the village. Everyone was already inside. My new dark coloring made me about as well hidden in the dark as a shadow.
I hurried to my house, then lingered outside, unsure what to do. Should I knock? Should I just leave? I didn't have to decide because at that moment the door swung open and my mom walked out.
She stood there in shock for a few seconds, then let out a high pitched scream and fainted. My father rushed to the door to help her.
"Vivian, what's wrong?" He cried, then looked up at me. "What's that thing?" He spit the word out as if it tasted bad.My heart felt as if it was tore in two as I watched. I stood there for a few seconds before slowly beginning to turn. I took off running and slammed straight into somebody. I grunted as I fell to the ground. I sat up and rubbed my head, then turned to look at who I ran into. I gasped. My heart fluttered.
Camilia, the love of my life, lay on the ground moaning. I probably hit her much harder than she hit me. I glanced around. I didn't know if I could still talk, but it was worth a shot.
I gently shook Camilia. She groaned.
"Camilia, listen to me. You have to wake up." Camilia groaned again and rolled over.
"E...Ender, is that you?" She mumbled. "What happened to your voice?""Shhhh...it's alright." I helped her up and she opened her eyes. She let out a loud scream and I immediately let go of her hand. She looked me up and down, then grabbed my hand again and dragged me into an alleyway.
"Wha...what happened to you?!?" My gazed dropped. Camilia looked at me with concern. I kept my head down.
"The dragon....it, er...did this to me." I said awkwardly."Have you told your family yet? They've been worried sick! So have I." She said.
"I tried, but when my mom saw me she screamed and passed out."
"Yep. Sounds like her alright. Do you have anywhere to stay?" She asked."Nah, but I'd rather try to figure this out. Plus, I don't feel the least bit tired." I said, shrugging my black shoulders.
"Ok. Can you meet me back here in the morning tomorrow? I'm going to try to see if I can convince your family and everything." I nodded, and she left.
