A DATE FOR THE DANCE

_______________

THE WEEK AFTER THAT WAS THE WORST FOR THE BOTH OF THEM, THE TENSION THICK. Of course, their classmates didn't notice, it was too subtle for them. But for Effy and Bakugou, it was overwhelming. Sneaky glances from across the room to passing each other in the halls--it was all too much. It was hard to approach, when it was the easiest thing in the world just a few days ago. That one week was hell.

But that was okay.

It was okay because, she told herself as she zipped up her dress, she would be leaving for Ireland the day after, the day after her birthday. She would leave behind everything and everyone here, in Mustafu, Japan and move to a European country. It was a far-fetched plan, truly. And the more she thought about it, the more she doubted the original Effy would be there at the given address.

Effy put on the eyeliner on her eyelids with special care, her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth in concentration. She then put on some lip gloss and stepped back to admire her appearence in the mirror of her room as she always did. She wore that green dress she bought two weeks ago from the old shop, was going to were black flats (she could never walk in heels) and wore that silver eagle necklace she got ten years ago.

The house was awfully quiet, lacking the loud arguement that usually took place downstairs. She thanked her stars that her parents were on a trip to Hawaii just because they had enough money to spend for the trip. For once, Effy was glad her parents didn't take her for this trip. She could easily escape anytime she wanted.

The grey-eyed girl glanced at the clock sitting on her bedpost. The party started at 7pm and she still would have half an hour to spend if she left for school now. Ah, fuck it. Shrugging, she exited her room in a hurry, slipped on her flats and left the house. She didn't bother pedaling to school, she didn't want to. A walk sounded nice at the moment.

As soon as she was outside the comforts of her house, the cold chill of the evening hit her like how the ocean hit the shore of a rocky beach. She shivered in the cold but adjusted it soon enough; the summer cold did not match up to winter's cold. The heels of her flats clicked against the ground every time she took a step. Her steps were lagged and slow--the girl was in no rush. The night was young and the sky still had some of its golden hue, gradually fading into an inky black. She couldn't see many stars due to the amount of light pollution in the city but a few stubborn ones caught her eye. She imagined they would shine brightly in pitch black but it mattered as long as they shone.

The full moon glistened right in the centre of the sky, being the most attractive thing in the sky by far. It was so big and it was so bright. It seemed to chase the darkness away even though there were street lamps. Its light showered the streets.

She stopped walking when she heard the door slam shut from the house she had just walked by: Bakugou's house. And she knew who exactly it was when she heard someone mutter profanities from behind her.

Bakugou stopped when he saw her with her hands clasped behind her back. She wore an emrald green dress that reached her knees and black flats. A silver necklace hung from her neck, going perfectly with her dress. Her hair were left open, the platinum blonde locks cascading down her bare shoulders. She smiled at him.

Bakugou's hair was spiked as always, sticking out in any and all directions. He wore a dark grey vest with blue roses on his sides over a blood red shirt and a black tie tucked in the vest. He wore brown dress shoes with dark blue pants and if Effy could say it out loud, she would say he looked atrociously handsome. She wondered if he wore cologne. Her eyes looked him up and down, his red ones mirroring her actions. They didn't say it, but they thought the other looked stunning.

Effy smiled, "You're looking... sharp." Bakugou, who wanted to complement her back held back, clicking his tongue instead. He was still mad at her so, he walked past her, bumping into her shoulder purposely. Effy didn't mind. She was hurting, but that didn't stop her from trying to enjoy her last night with her friends in Japan. So, her smile not leaving her face, she walked beside him. Bakugou didn't bother to tell her to go away, he knew she wouldn't listen. His hands now snug inside his pockets, he glanced at the girl walking beside.

She still had a smile on her face as she looked up at the night sky. He didn't need to look up to know that there weren't many stars... so why was she pretending to stargaze? He stared as her hair caught the moonlight in the perfect way, making them look silver. Her eyes held the gaze of the moon, making it look like there were stars in her eyes. His heart was in his ears, beating faster than its normal pace and he swore, he fell all over again. But falling for her was like suicide over and over again. You get hurt and you come back for more.

Bakugou swallowed. What are you really getting yourself into, Bakugou? He really wanted to kiss her. He looked back at the path ahead at them, trying to calm his racing heart down.

Little did he know, hers was racing too.

"Bakugou," she said, her voice velvety smooth (she was trying her best not to stutter), "will you be my date for tonight's dance?" She dreaded the answer but needed to hear it all the same. He stopped walking and so did she, her gaze not leaving him.

"Why? Don't you have anyone else to go with?" His gaze was sharp and shivers crawled up her spine and her smile faltered. "I do not."

His scowl softened but that didn't mean he gave up on keeping the 'mean guy' act. "Tch, whatever." Her smile visibally brightened, a little more light in her eyes. As quick as lightening, she hooked her arm in his and kissed his cheek, "Let's go, we'll be late!" And she dragged him towards school.

Effy knew it looked like she was throwing herself on him, but she was just happy for once. And it was really, really nice.

"OI, SLOW DOWN!"

"Nope!"

"Nope!"
