Chapter 2: Home

“June, let me show you our home.” Dan opens the limo door and helps me out. “It is customary to carry your bride over the threshold, if you do not mind.”

Mindful of my father’s instructions, I respond, “okay.” I float up into his arms as he walks to the gigantic door (about 1.5x2.5M or 4.9x8.2 FT.) It opens itself and he enters, setting me down inside.

As the door closes by itself, he states, “normally, this is where your clothes would come off and we would have sex. I assume you have a clue what that might be. Your father was a fool. He tried selling you on the black market, thinking nothing bad would happen. Children like you fetch a handsome price and many bad things happen to them, including dying when they become used up.

“For now, until you are eighteen, consider me your friend, Dan. Then, you can pick to stay married and consummate it or have it annulled. Either way, your family keeps the money and you live like a princess.”

We are standing in a huge empty room (about 15x15 M or 49.5x49.5 FT) with two fancy curved staircases leading upstairs to a loft like area. The stairs are wide (about 1 M or 3.3 FT.) You can walk in the middle between the staircases or between the walls and the staircases with a nice opening (about 1 M or 3.3 FT.) The center area between the stairs creates a circle (about 11 M or 32.1 FT in diameter) perfect for an immense tree. A huge chandelier hangs in the middle between the stairs. The ceiling is over two stories tall (about 10.1M of 33 FT.) Each end of the loft has a hallway opening through the wall.

Beyond the loft is a glass wall with a swimming pool area beyond. Dan points to the door on the right, “that is the formal living room,” (about 10x10 M or 32.5x32.5 FT.) He points to the left door, “formal dining room,” (about 10x10 M or 32.5x32.5 FT.) We walk towards the pool and as we get closer, I can see he enclosed it in glass. The loft is midway to the ceiling (about 4.9 M to 16 FT) determining the ceiling height for each floor of the building. Once we are under the loft, he points to the right, “guest bathroom,” (about 5x10 M or 16.5x32.5 FT) and heading to the door on the left, “kitchen.”

I look beyond the pool to the yard on both sides. To the right appears to be tennis courts. To the left is a barn with horses. Beyond them both is woods.

We open the door and enter a hallway with a wall straight in front of us. It goes right to a second door leading into the pool area to the right of the hall. A left turn leads past the dining room into the kitchen on the far side of it. We can see there are five people sitting at the table set to hold eight ahead in the kitchen. Once we get there, the kitchen's proper size (about 20x5 M or 65x16.5 FT) is visible. The area we walked around is a pantry (about 5x5 M or16.5x16.5 FT.) There is a doorway into the formal dining room further down that wall. The very fancy kitchen is to the left, along with a vast island bigger than the table. There are many appliances I have never seen before.

“This is where we eat normally. Everyone officially this is my wife June. June, these are all college students that work for me in exchange for free education. Tom here takes care of the grounds and pool. Jane is our shopper and cook. Alex cleans this level. Betty cleans upstairs. Elaine is the chauffeur and takes care of our cars. They all grew up poor like you, though most are from the city. After lunch, Jane will take you shopping. Betty will take you to your room after we finish our tour.”

They waved as he introduced them. Both ends of the table are empty. Tom and Jane are sitting closest to us. Jane is on the right side. Next to Jane is Elaine, then Betty. The left middle seat is empty and Alex is across from Betty.

We continue through the kitchen, proceeding through a door straight ahead from the hallway to enter a game room (about 20x5 M or65x16.5 FT.) It has a pool table, a dartboard, video game consoles, a few arcade machines, a table with a puzzle in progress, and a few other tables.
