"So how you feeling?" The producer asked me.
"Fine."
She nodded and proceeded to flick a switch. A screen came up on the monitors as she adjusted master volume.
"We have a minute left till we go back on air, so best to you that you refresh yourself. We're going to be here for a long time."
She [the producer] signalled the crew working behind the scenes as we came on-air.
"Welcome back to the Genius 24hr podcast as we welcome back our esteemed guest, Zach Monroe.
"So Zach, can I call you Zach?"
I hmmm in response.
"So Zach, tell us about your school life." The producer asked me.
Laughter.
"Well........" I started.
----------------------------------------------------
My alarm clock sounded in the morning.
Feeling sleepy, I hit, no, punch the clock off the nearby drawer. But before I do so, I check the time. It reads 5.40 a.m.
"Five more minutes," I mumble to myself.
After a well-rested 14 minutes of extra sleep, I groggily say to myself as I wake up from slumber.
Today is a Friday.
In case I haven't introduced myself, I'm Zach Monroe. I go to Will Anderson High School in California. It's a predominantly white school with other ethnicities making up 30
Also I'm mixed, my prime feature being my fluffy brown hair. I'm about 5'10" in height with a....
You know that body type where you're like 60% lanky but also 40% built?
That's my build.
After doing the usual school preparation routine, I leave my room and enter the sitting room, which, for some reason, is eerily empty.
I'm still puzzled as I get freezing water dumped on me.
"Lil' [redacted] scared of water?" I hear, mockingly from above.
"No, but that doesn't mean you must always be a [redacted] about everything" I respond as I go up to get a new pair of clothes.
Sometimes, the audacity of these humans makes me lose faith in them.
"Oooooooohh, what you want a heater?"
"No, just clean up that mess."
"Hell nah"
Meet Rory, my unemployed-supposed-to-be-in-school-but-not-in-school-Satan-of-a-brother. He's my older brother and my only family.
"Man, you're unbelievable." I plainly say to Rory.
"But ain't that a good thing though?"
I scoff as I go to school.
As I enter WAHS, I see my best friend, Chriss sitting in the lounge area, engrossed in his books. It's 7.57 a.m. and school starts at 8.15 a.m.
I pretend not to see him as I slowly pass him. He was probably waiting for me.
5,4,3,2....a mental clock runs in my mind as per our ritual.
Then Chriss spots me.
"Ayo, East Side!"
" '04, West Side still blessed though not going to lie."
"Trust." We both say in unison as we conclude the handshake.
At that moment, one of our classmates decides to speak up.
"You know -you guys- , from my point of view, it looks like Chriss and Zach are doing gang signs or something."
"So? Either way, you still ain't gon' learn it."
Meet Chriss Fox.
My gigantic best friend from Virginia. If you don't know, he's black with the body of an athlete.
Very handsome I must say, though. He's 6'4" at the moment (I know), but his family doctor said he'll stop growing at 6'10". So, because of that, he aspires to be an NBA basketballer.
This takes me back to the first time we met, about a year ago.
We were both in the lounge area waiting for the Parent-Teacher meeting to end.
He was still relatively new at the time.
So there he was, sat next to me.
I, at the time, started to unconsciously hum the lyrics to a song. Though it was all just mumble.
I don't need no molly to be savage,
But when I'm on that molly, I feel savage,
She's the definition of a bad b*tch,Stole her heart, I'm the definition of a bandit. He responded.
It took me by surprise. I looked him right in the eye and said,
"You know 'Bandit'?"
"Yeah, our course."
----------------------------------------------------
Hello.
Anyways, keeping it short, I've finally finished Chapter 1. It took an unnecessary amount of time but anyway I finished it.
Started writing Chapter 2 so watch out for that.
Also the song is Juice WRLD - Bandit Ft. NBA YOUNGBOY.
That's all for now.
Aight Peace.
Also, I made the chapters longer (if you noticed) and hope to keep it that way.
Constructive criticism is always accepted, again.
Ok, for real.
Aight Peace.
