Summary: At a small get-together at Rowenas house, Charlie's recent death and Deans harsh words said to Kates about it, are still fresh in everyone's minds. Kate, despite the fact Dean is now cured from the Mark of Cain, is revealed to have taken his harsh words to heart more than her brothers thought.

Hallucinations in bold (the way the text switches between hallucinations and reality can be confusing, basically the bold is what Kate sees in her hallucinations and the regular text is what is actually happening.)

Flashbacks will be italicised

A/N: for those of you who watch ShadowHunters on Netflix, most of this chapter is based around the scene episode 2x08, when Alec is on the roof with Clary. You don't have to have seen ShadowHunters to understand this chapter, it's just where I got my inspiration from :)

Ages: Dean: 37
Sam: 33
Kate: 27

"Why are we doing this again?" Dean asked Kate from the drivers seat for what seemed like the hundredth time.

"It's Rowenas birthday, we're going to her party," Kate replied, rolling her eyes at her brothers childish nature, "after all the times she's saved our asses, the very least we can do is eat some cake at her apartment."

"The woman's like 400, I'm sure she's had plenty of birthdays," Dean rebutted, looking at Kate in the rear-view mirror,

"She told me there'd be pie there," Sam said, looking at his brother from the passenger seat, Dean shifted in his seat, trying to hide his excitement,

"Whatever..." he mumbled, acting unbothered, but Sam and Kate both smirked as they saw him subtly press a little harder on the accelerator, trying to get to their destination faster.

"Samuel! Dean! And my beautiful Katey! Oh! How are you all doing, dearies?" Rowena asked as she greeted them at the door with a bright smile, pulling all three into a hug and giving Kate a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Hi, Rowena. Happy birthday," Kate said, pulling away from the hug and handing the witch a gift bag, with some miscellaneous magical items inside.

Rowena thanked the trio, took the bag with a smile of great appreciation and began to walk through the entrance of her apartment.

She turned to the three who were still awkwardly standing at the door, "well, are you coming in or not? Don't hover all night," she said.

All three of them made their way inside, Kate heading in slightly quicker than the boys. After all, she trusted Rowena; considered her a good friend.

"Oh crap, sorry," she said, bumping into a young witch who was standing in the hall.

"Don't worry, honey, I was the one in the way," she said, smiling in a sickly manner before walking away.

Kate ignored the seemingly harmless encounter and began to look around the packed apartment. She took in sight of all of Rowena's acquaintances, and 'my god' the girl thought, there were a lot of them, there were dozens.

'I suppose it makes sense an immortal would have a long guest list,' she thought.

Some who were considerably old, and yet still looked vibrant in some ways, chattered quaintly in the corners whilst others, the younger, more eager witches and warlocks were conversing in the middle of the room.
