Lemony's POV

Beatrice Baudelaire walked along the winding, narrow path. The trees around her were unwelcoming and melancholy, a word which here means 'sad'. But she was very happy. She was finally going to meet her uncle, Lemony Snicket.

Beatrice was a little 7-year old girl with dark brown hair and twinkling blue eyes. She was wearing a red cardigan and jeans. She lived with her adopted siblings, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. They raised her and cared for her ever since she was born.

Violet Baudelaire, the eldest, had finally gotten the huge Baudelaire fortune. She and her siblings had bought a nice big house with a huge garden, a little like Uncle Monty's house when they had lived with him. Violet got a professional mechanical lab, Klaus got a small library with a cosy alcove, and as Sunny wasn't into biting things anymore, she got an extravagant kitchen.  The word 'extravagant' here means 'very fancy and nice to cook in'. Beatrice was into art, so she got an art studio right next to Klaus's library. She had also found that she loved to dance. She often entertained the Baudelaires by dancing in front of them.

They were working hard to change their lives. Violet had gotten a job in a car-manufacturing factory, where she worked every day from morning to late afternoon. Klaus worked part-time in a library, where he soon memorized all of the books on each and every shelf. Sunny and Beatrice were going to start at Prufrock Preparatory School. It had changed into a V. F. D. training center for young volunteers and both Sunny and Beatrice were excited and elated to start.

The Baudelaires thought that their miserable life had ended and now they were in a happy life, but little did they know, that's not how the story goes.

Beatrice took a turn and finally saw the restaurant where she was supposed to meet me. She sat on the first seat she could find and waited for me. A waiter soon came over to her table. No, he was not Larry, your waiter. He looked suspiciously at the girl. "Yeh look very little ter sit alone," he said. "Oh, I'm not sitting alone," said Beatrice. "I'm waiting for my uncle. Two root beer floats, please."

The waiter looked in surprise at her.

But he didn't say anything and wrote down her order on a greasy, yellow piece of paper. "Root beer floats...two..." he muttered as he wrote. "Anythin' else for yeh, miss?" "No thanks," she said politely. The waiter left and soon came carrying the glasses.

Beatrice took a sip and looked out of the window. Was that him? That man, with the grey blazer and black hair? Well, that man came inside the restaurant and looked around. "Mr. Snicket," Beatrice called. He looked at her. "Sit here," she told him. I sat down across her and took a sip of my root beer. "I'm your niece," said the girl. "Beatrice Baudelaire. The second."

I was overwhelmed with happiness and sadness. This was really my niece, Kit's daughter, and she was named after the woman I loved from the bottom of my heart. I vowed to love her the way I loved Beatrice the first.

"I'm here to tell you about the Baudelaires," said Beatrice. I nodded, grinning a little. Beatrice began, "Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire were charming and resourceful, and had-"

"Pleasant facial features," we said together and laughed.

"You know this story," said Beatrice in surprise. "Parts of it," I said. "Do you know about the pirates?" asked Beatrice. "Pirates?" I asked incredulously. She smiled and continued.

"One morning, as Sunny cooked soup for breakfast for all of us, Klaus was using the spyglass to find land. Instead, he saw a big ship. It looked like a cruise. 'Look,' said Klaus, giving the spyglass to Violet. Violet took it up to her eye and saw it. 'Why does a cruise have a black flag?' she wondered aloud, as she gave the spyglass to Sunny. 'Should we go there?' Klaus asked. 'Maybe we can explain to them that we're lost and they'll probably help us find land.' The three of them were silent for a while, thinking.

"The Baudelaires eventually decided to sail over to the ship and check it out. Sunny worked the tiller, Klaus gave instructions from the spyglass, Violet worked the sail, and I crawled all over the boat, making sure there were no leaks and it was balancing well. After ten minutes of this, we finally reached the ship. By then we had realized what it really was. But it was too late.

"It was a pirate ship?" I asked. "Yup," Beatrice nodded.

"A ladder winded down to us. 'Where do we go?' whispered Klaus. 'We've come this far.' 'What choice do we have?' Violet whispered. She took me in her arms and led the way up the ladder. When we all reached, we looked in shock at the ship. Our instinctions were right. This really was a pirate ship.

"Before we knew it, our hands were tied to our backs and we were gagged. A huge pirate with a huge mustache stood in front of us. 'Who are you?' he spat. He didn't wait for an answer. 'Make them walk the plank,' he ordered the other pirates. 'We have no use for children here.' 'Wait!' said one of the pirates, snatching the spyglass out of Klaus's pocket. 'They have a spyglass. We can use them.'

"The pirates untied us and removed the cloths gagging us. 'Use us for what?' Violet said bravely. 'For getting this,' said the huge pirate, thrusting a map in her hands. She saw that there were landmarks and a black line marking the path. On the corner of the map was a big black 'x'. 'What's on the 'x'?' Klaus asked, who was reading the map over Violet's shoulder. 'Treasure,' said the pirate nastily. 'And you're to help us find it. None of us can work out how to use a spyglass.'

'What do we get in return?' Violet asked. 'Return? You won't get anything, pretty,' said the pirate. 'Then we won't help you,' said Klaus. 'Oh, really? And a bunch of midget children's gonna stop me?' mocked the pirate. 'Yeah!' said Sunny indignantly. 'Violet, Klaus, Beatrice, get to work!'

"This is getting interesting," I said. Beatrice gave me a look that said, 'Can I finish?' "Ok, right, sorry," I said quickly. "Go on."

Violet ran around the ship, causing pandemonium to break out. Soon most of the pirates were running after her. She took a deep breath, then ran towards the plank and stopped right at the beginning of it, causing the pirates to fall off the ship. Then it was Klaus's turn. He snatched the spyglass back from the pirate holding it and looked out of it. There was land close by. 'I've found a Very Fitting Destination!' he cried. Violet stopped rounding up the pirates for a moment. 'Really?' 'Where?' said the huge pirate, sprinting over to Klaus and trying to pry the spyglass out of his hands, but that's where I came in. Sunny had taught me all of her biting techniques, and I was an expert. I sank my teeth in the pirate's leg and he let out a high pitched yell that sounded like Klaus singing in the shower. Trust me, he's done that before.

The pirate fled and all the other pirates remained on the ship went with him. Sunny worked the tiller. 'Where's the Very Fitting Destination?' She asked Klaus. 'Straight ahead,' said Klaus.

A while later, we found land. Violet, Klaus, Sunny and I immediately recognized the place. Briny Beach.

"We went to the city and, using the Baudelaire fortune, we hired a lawyer and cleared all our names. We weren't recognized as murderers anymore. Then we bought a big house and we've been living there ever since," Beatrice concluded. "Wow," I said in amazement. "Beatrice, I was wondering, would you like to help me write down the story of the Quagmires? Now, I know the full story of the Baudelaires, and I want to write the Quagmires next. Can you help me research?"

"Well, my school is starting in two days, but I would love to during the holidays."

"Great," I said. "I hope I'll see you soon."

"Me too," Beatrice smiled.
