Marshall POV
"Come on baby, let's get going!"
I checked my phone again. I had been exchanging texts all day with friends and family about the party that night. It was New Year's Eve, and I had rented out the VIP section of a club here in Detroit. It was a surprise to Lilly. She just knew that I was taking her out that night.
The children were at Hailie's for a "party", but they would be in attendance at the celebration later that evening. Shiq was still in town but was going to ride there with Porter as to not feel like the third wheel. Lilly finally came down the steps wearing a classy black spaghetti strap dress with a sequin black jacket over it for dinner. I knew she'd lose the jacket later and look all sexy to ring in the new year. She also carried a red purse and wore red heels.
I smirked and kissed her as she walked in the kitchen. I was wearing black jeans, a black leather jacket, air maxes, and my chain that Lilly had given me. She wrapped herself in a big winter coat as it was frigid outside.
"You sure you don't want to tell me where we're going?" Lilly asked.
"It's a surprise. You're gonna love it though."
Lilly was excited as we got in the escalade to begin our exciting evening together. I parked the car behind the club and came over to open the car door for Lilly. She smiled big with anticipation. I did a half smile back and helped her out of the car holding both of her hands. We walked in the back door and up a flight of stairs.
Lilly walked ahead of me to the VIP area. All of our family, friends, and our kids were already there as Lilly gazed into the crowd of people. She saw Shiq standing with Denaun and Paul and his wife were there. Lilly looked more closely. Crystal and Gina were there! I had flown them in that morning from LA and Philly. Royce and his wife were there and so were Nate and Ashley. Even Fifty had flown in from New York! There were other friends of mine and some of the girls' friends too.
Lilly ran over to greet everyone with hugs. She was overjoyed that I got all her friends together here in Detroit. Everybody was dressed to impress. There was a marvelous spread of cold cuts, cheese, fruit, veggies, salads, meats, and desserts. Everyone formed a line, dug-in to the food, and began to mingle. Introductions were being made between the two groups of mine and Lilly's people, jokes were being told, and it was shaping up to be a joyous occasion. We danced to old school hip hop, even the kids were killing it on the dance floor.
"How'd you get my 13 yr. old son in a club?" Lilly leaned in to yell over the music.
"I told em he is part of my entourage!" I yelled back.
Lilly visited with her girlfriends and conveyed to them how amazing her life had recently become. I hung with my homies for a bit talking about how our holidays were and upcoming projects in the new year.
Midnight was approaching as it was half past eleven and I made my way over to my girl. I stood behind Lilly to close my arms around her.
"Come with me a minute." I whispered in her ear and then kissed it.
I took Lilly by the hand and led her to a private room off to the side. The room had a vaulted ceiling and huge windows overlooking the city. We kept the lights off to stand by the windows in each other's arms taking in the view of the night sky and city lights. Lilly looked to the stars and I could sense the feeling of safety coming over her. The feeling that she could only fully embrace when she was with me.
I was gentle when I spoke to her, "You having fun tonight?"
"Of course I am. Thank you so much for flying my friends in."
