Lilly POV
On thanksgiving morning I arose early for a morning run and then returned home to make myself a cup of tea and sit by the fire. Besides meeting Marshall's ex-wife Kim, I would also be meeting his brother and his family and I was looking forward to it.
I prepared the turkey and placed it in the oven before going over my list of sides. I got the pies out of the freezer, then started to peel potatoes and snap the green beans.
Marshall came down the stairs to find me already busy.
"I woke up and my baby was gone." He said as he kissed me.
"Nice chain." I smiled.
"Thanks. Some chick got it for me."
Marshall sat at the counter as I placed the sweet potatoes in a bowl and mixed them with brown sugar, orange juice and pecans. I put a few pinches of cinnamon and nutmeg on them. Then, I mixed the corn with cream cheese, sugar, and milk.
"Here, try this." I spooned some of the foods into Marshall's mouth.
"Mmm..that's so good." Marshall said between chewing. "How do you know how to do all this without using a recipe?"
"This isn't my first-time preparing thanksgiving dinner." I smiled at him.
I covered the sweet potatoes, corn casserole, and green beans and placed them in the fridge until it was time to bake them later. Then, I made mashed potatoes, cut up broccoli, and put cranberry sauce in the fridge. I put the pumpkin and apple pies in the oven and got out all the serving utensils and a bag full of crafty stuff I bought to set the table.
Marshall helped himself to a bowl of cereal and I ran upstairs to get ready for the day. I wore jeans and a tank top to cook in with some boots and texted "Happy Thanksgiving!" to each of my children. Suddenly I became nervous thinking about meeting Marshall's entire family.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror one last time.
"Getcha playa face on girl" I told herself, then went downstairs and draped my flannel over a chair.
"You look beautiful bae." Marshall told me.
"I suddenly feel so nervous. I feel like I'm intruding on your family."
"Don't feel that way baby, I want you here. Everything will be fine, you'll see."
I made myself busy prepping the rest of the food and when the doorbell rang, anxiety shivered through my body. I quickly put my flannel on and tousled my hair. Marshall answered the door, and it was his brother Nathan and his family. Marshall greeted them and invited them into the kitchen. I smiled as they came into the room as all eyes were on me.
"This is my girl, Lilly." Marshall introduced me.
We exchanged "hellos" and "nice to meet you" and Marshall and his brother and nephews went in the living room to watch football.
"Need any help?" Ashley asked.
"That would be great." I smiled.
Ashley and I went into the dining room and I brought the bag with the centerpiece and candles to set the table. I started removing the items from the bag.
"Oh my gosh, these are so cute!" Ash exclaimed as she picked up the gourds and little turkeys.
"Yeah. I love cooking for holidays like this."
"Well we all appreciate it. I know Marshall will be impressed. He's crazy about you, ya know?"
"Yeah, he's pretty special to me too." I smiled again.
