What happened if Captain Cuttlefish and Agent 3 had never met the Octoling soon to be known as Subject 10,008? What if 8 had never had Marina and Pearl's guidance during the tests? What if Tartar went through with his plans to annihilate Inkopolis and start anew? A/N: This is my first ever fanfiction. I actually decided to suck it up and publish something! So yeah, enjoy, dudes!

Agent 8 and Pearl go poking around in the deepsea metro, and find not only Dedf1sh, a mysterious octoarian who seems to have kept some of her mind during her sanatization, but also Sashimi, a self-proclaimed "Salmonling". And there's even mysterious rumors of a girl who might just be... human? Can Agent 8 save Dedf1sh? And is Sashimi really able to be trusted? All of that and more, in "Dead in the Water"!

"Hey, guys," they greeted, to no one in particular. "I'm just starting up this video diary in case anyone finds this sometime in the future. Heck, maybe even I'll find this in the future." They paused, stifling a chuckle, breaking eye contact as they closed their eyes, before looking back at the camera once more. This is the story of how Dedf1sh, the mysterious DJ from the depths of the Deepsea, came to be. Once a regular Octoling, they somehow ended up in the confines of the Deepsea Metro. How they ended up sanitized, however, is a mystery to most, even themselves. (A/N: Everyone has different headcanons on who Dedf1sh is, so my depiction will be using they/them pronouns as to clear conflicts.)

This Q&A will be weaved into a story! I will not start it yet until I get at least 30 questions.

An octoling that served for Octavio, now sanitized. Deep down in the Deepsea Metro, an octoling that is trying to get her freedom with the leader of Squid Beak. These two octolings are trying to escape to the surface, but can they get out? *INCLUDES SPOILERS OF OCTO EXPANSION*

This story is about what I personally think Marina's backstory was like. Some events may not match up to canon events. Pearlina is canon in this story. Characters may be out of character. My aim for this story is for it to be set in Marina's past but I may write about the present later on in the story. All art used is either my own art or official art. If it is my own art it will be stated in an A/N (author's note) at the beginning of the chapter. I do not own the Splatoon franchise or any of the characters in this story.
