Oasis of Outcasts is a collection of poetry written from the soul of the author. Each poem is written with powerful imagery. Each poem is soulful, yet thoughtful. Oasis of Outcasts may consist of subtle poetry, but the imagery is clear. Each poem doesn't just put emotion into consideration, but also one's senses into consideration. Ang kwento ay umiikot sa malalim na katanungan: "Paano kung ang Diyos ay isa lang sa atin?" Sinimulan ito sa mga kaisipan tungkol sa kung ano kaya ang itsura, pangalan, at pagkatao ng Maykapal kung Siya ay magpapakita sa ating mundo. Ipinapakita nito ang paniniwalang madalas nating inaakala na ang Diyos ay laging nasa itaas, makapangyarihan, at puno ng kaluwalhatian-ngunit paano kung dumating Siya sa anyo ng isang simpleng tao? Ang pangunahing tagpo ay naganap sa isang terminal ng bus kung saan nakita ng bida-isang kabataang babae-ang isang matandang lalaki na mukhang pagod, marungis, at walang kakilala. Habang ang ibang tao ay umiiwas o walang pakialam sa matanda dahil sa kanyang itsura, siya lang ang lumapit at nag-alok ng tubig at tulong. Sa kanilang pag-uusap, dahan-dahang nahayag ang katotohanan at mga aral: na ang Diyos ay maaaring nasa anyo ng sinumang nangangailangan, at ang tunay na pananampalataya ay nakikita sa pagmamahal at pagtulong sa kapwa.

A way to put into words the life of another. It has been the way of people to pass down history through generations, and it rests upon us to carry on this tradition whether in the form of paragraphs or verses.

There's so many little things, terrifying and closing thoughts away. Maybe this will give you something to do when you're lonely and tired, and need to think a little too much. Give this a chance, and stop holding your breath or the pen between your teeth. Even ink needs an audience willing to insanity and strange ideas.

Ange: The Borrower of Barter Books is a light-hearted tribute inspired by my work colleague, Angela Foggon, who is affectionately known to all of us simply as Ange. Ange and I work together Front of House in the Station Buffet Café at Barter Books in Alnwick. Long before I joined the team, Ange was already a familiar and much-loved presence there, known for her sense of humour, quick wit, and ability to make people smile. Over the years, she has become one of those people who helps make Barter Books the special place that it is. Ange is also famously the smallest member of our crew, which has led to plenty of affectionate teasing and workplace jokes, many of which have found their way into this poem. The poem playfully exaggerates my unfortunate habit of accidentally bumping into her. These incidents, along with references to her Borrower-like stature, are written purely for comedic effect and are intended with warmth, friendship, and admiration. In reality, the poem is not really about Ange's height at all. It is about her character, her humour, and the positive impact she has on the people around her. It also celebrates something I greatly admire about her: her determination to give up smoking following a diagnosis of COPD. It was not an easy journey, but she showed remarkable strength and commitment, and it has been wonderful to see her looking healthier and happier as a result. Above all, this poem was written as a thank you. Thank you for the laughter, the banter, the friendship, and the positivity Ange brings to every shift. While the poem pokes fun at her size, it is really a celebration of the person she is, because those who know Ange know that there is absolutely nothing small about her kindness, resilience, sense of humour, or heart. This poem is dedicated to Angela "Ange" Foggon, a valued colleague, a treasured friend, and one of the people whose warmth and personality help make Barter Books feel like home to so many people.
