Before the Guardians, Carrie Maximoff was on her own and she liked that. Forty years of wandering the universe while barely aging. Time is a weird concept when it comes to the multiverse. She ages a year every ten years, if that makes sense. You see, Carrie is from another universe where they're no Avengers and instead they're mutants, humans with a special gene. Carrie has that special gene. Carrie didn't mean to switch universes, she was only walking home from a party.
