"Look, we're running out of time here and if you don't let go now to grab my hand, we're both going down," he pressed, eyes flickering between yours. "And I don't know about you, but I'd really prefer to stay alive tonight. So for both our sakes, you're going to have to take a leap of faith here."
"Okay," you finally said, your voice soft, almost a whisper. He widened his eyes, quickly nodding to show you it was alright, that he'd catch you.
"On three?" he asked, not wanting to rush you but knowing he had to if you both were going to make it out alive.
You gave him a single nod.
He hadn't even made it to two before you let go, firmly grabbing his elbow. Your clammy hands nearly slipped, causing you to yelp, but he quickly seized your hand, his fingers slotting through yours with a secure grip. With a strong pull, he lifted you up, the momentum sending you crashing onto him on the cement, safely away from the edge. The wall cracked and crumbled, falling along with the vine into the boiling liquid below. His arms encircled you, holding you firmly against his chest.
"I got you," he murmured, letting his head rest against the hard ground as he looked up at the sky, his hands gently cradling your head. Your face nestled into the crook of his neck as you tried to steady your breathing. "I got you."
// You've always lived for the dramatics, always patiently waiting for something, anything to change your life. After the earthquake that nearly tore Hawkins apart, you selfishly thought your moment had finally arrived. You didn't believe in coincidences. Hawkins didn't get earthquakes, and for one to just happen at such a huge magnitude was extremely bizarre. Something more had to be at play, and you were determined to uncover it. You didn't anticipate, however, just how much it would impact your life, or that it would all stem from meeting a certain group of people.
