Maisie's pov
I let my eyes close as the summer wind moves.
James and I, we're still the same in the not-talking-to-each-other phase. We only talk when needed or just to give a simple greeting like "Morning", "See you later" and "Night".
But no more "I love yous". Does he even love me anymore?
"Maisie!" Evie shouted.
"What is it?" I looked around, seeing the cafe is not too busy.
"I have a special delivery. Professor Matthew asked me to give this letter to you," she said, excited. "Come on, open it!"
I leaned in with a furrowed brow. "A letter from who? I don't remember expecting any letter from anyone."
"I know but Professor Matthew won't tell me anything. He said it's a surprise."
The way she says it makes me curious, and excited. Evie squeezed my shoulders. "Hurry, I want to see who is it from."
I lifted the letter and read it.
"Oh my god, Evie! Please tell me this is real." I can't believe my eyes. The letter is from one of the famous production company. "They asked me to play in their new show and it's also for my summer internship. They asked me! But how?"
"No surprise there, you're the campus star, Maisie. Of course they pick you."
I shook my head in disbelief and glanced at Evie. "This is amazing, Evie, but I don't think I could make it."
"What? Why not?" she asked.
"Look," I showed Evie the letter. "They will start filming this soon. How can I be there? I'll be spending summer break with James at his hometown."
"Well, you have to tell James you couldn't go." said Evie.
"Are you crazy? Our relationship is on the rocks and now you want me to tell James that I couldn't spend summer break with him? That's like putting fuel into an already burning fire!"
"I'm sorry Maisie, but this is such a big offer. An offer that you can't say no to. Isn't this is your dream? To be casted in a tv show? It's also a good opportunity for your internship. This is your luck, Maisie. I really hope you will think this over before making a rash decision," proposed Evie.
"Listen Maisie, if James truly loves you, he will understand. He would want you to live your dream. I'm sure he'd be happy for you," she continued.
I cringed at the memory of James and me fighting.
"You've always been busy. Always too busy for me. Apparently your acting and your friends are more important to you."
"I don't know, Evie..." Evie send me a disapproving look. "Fine, I'll talk to him, okay?"
"Now Maisie," said Evie, giving me a wink, "can I go with you to the filming? I want to see what it's like! Please!"
"Sure but remember, we're not going there for fun. I actually have a work to do. A professional acting!" I said with an insinuating smile.
Later I was home alone, finishing up my monologues while waiting for James to be home from his class. I texted him earlier, asking him if we could have dinner together tonight. He replied, Sure.
We're still trying to make our relationship work. We realized what happened before was both our faults. James has been home a lot, no more spending the night at Oliver's, he had no more 'broken stuff' I suppose.
One time, James decided to ask me to go back home to his hometown for our summer break. "We can have a little getaway there. Just you and me and a change of scenery. Maybe it will do us good," he said.
I quickly agreed. I will do anything to bring back the love between us. I know the love is there. I know I love him, and he still loves me. We just need to bring that spark back and maybe fix our ego.
Spending summer alone with him is exactly what I needed, but that was until I got the offer letter to play in a tv show.
Summer with James? Or acting? James or acting? Of course I want to choose James, but I can't just let go the opportunity to achieve my dream. I love acting, and here's my chance to prove that I can be a professional actress.
I can still spend summer break with James here. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.
