James' pov

I finally arrived at my hometown, the place where I grew up. My parents only left me this lake house before they died. I studied the cabin carefully. The furnitures inside are exactly how I see them the last time I was here.

The cabin was situated not far from the sea. You can even taste the salt air from inside the house. There's a dark green sofa on the living room with a coffee table. There are lots of forest paintings on the wall too. My mom used to paint seas and forests then hang it around our home. I wasn't really into painting then, but since she died I have come to realize how much I treasured them.

I called Maisie to let her know that I have arrived.

"Hey, I've landed and just got here," I said to Maisie through the phone.

"Hey you, how's the place?" she asked.

"It looks like it needs a lot of dusting and fixing. Would be amazing if you're here with me though. We can clean up the place together and then go to the beach." I smiled to myself and I can tell she's smiling on the other side of the phone as well.

"I wish I was there too." I didn't hear a response from the other side of the line for a while, then I heard a fragment of a conversation between Maisie and someone else. "Sorry, I have to go. Evie is here, we're going to the mall. Call me back later, okay?"

"Yeah okay. Have fun," I stated before the line goes out.

After settling in and cleaning the whole house around 4 hours, I left to the nearest diner to grab something to eat. Once inside, I can hear the background music which isn't so loud but loud enough to keep us all entertained while waiting for our food.

"Evening sir, what can I get you?" A waitress with a brown hair asked me.

"Hi, I would like to have a coffee and fries please."

"That's all yeah? Okay, coming in a minute," the waitress said with a smile.

I glanced at the waitress from far and caught her eyes staring at me. I was expecting her to look away but instead, our eyes locked as she smiles at me.

She's bold, I thought to myself.

I always love a bold woman. That's one of the reasons I fell in love with Maisie. When I first saw her, she was playing her part in a theatre at our college. She mesmerized me with her passion and bold acting. After finding out that she's studying acting, I never thought I could ever get close to her or be her friends. I mean, she belongs with the popular kids. I wouldn't fit in with her cliques.

It took me 2 months to finally approach Maisie personally and confess to her after crushing on her from afar. I laughed a little when I remember how I was mentally ready to get rejected by her. But Maisie surprised me when she flirts back. That's when we started texting each other, went of coffee dates, bookstore dates, and walk in the park dates. And now she's my girlfriend.

Maisie is not like one of those stuck-up and obnoxious rich kids. She might be rich and popular, but she's also very kind and welcoming. I admire that about her.

The same waitress that I caught looking at me hand in my order. "Here's your coffee and fries. Do you need anything else?"

"That's all, thanks."

"Alright pretty boy," she said with a brief smile.

I shook my head and quickly finish my food while making a mental note to call Maisie again when I get home. She texted me earlier saying that she miss me already. I miss her too. It's fine, I don't plan to stay here long anyway. I'll just stay here for a few more days then I can go back to her arms.

Before I leave the diner, I saw the waitress from earlier looking at me again. I wasn't sure why she keeps looking at me. She sure is pretty, but I already have a girlfriend and she's beautiful.

The waitress has her hair up in a loose ponytail and she's wearing a blue checkered dress with a white apron. She looks like she came out straight out of the 50s. I return her smile to be polite.

I don't usually smile at strangers but I saw her name tag earlier and it shows her name, Hazel, so technically she's not really a stranger since I am now able to put a name to her face.

I chuckled to myself and make my way back to the lake house.
