Y/n POV:
*eight years ago*
The ceilings stretched high, they gave the illusion that they never ended from down below. The floors smelt like lemon from the detergents used to clean them, intoxicatingly fresh. I found myself in a classroom filled with faces I had never seen before, praying I had stumbled into the correct room.
Harrison: You okay there? You look a bit lost.
I heard, and a boy with dark blonde hair and piercing blue eyes smiled down at me as I stood with my hands firmly gripping the map of the school.
Y/n: Oh I'm supposed to be in Maths with Mr Carson?
Harrison: Then you've found the right place, I'm Harrison.
He said introducing himself. He stuck out his right hand for me to shake and he held it gently as I did so.
Y/n: Y/n. Nice to meet you.
Harrison: So what brings you here? I mean new kids are common but it's the middle of the year?
He asked, leaning against a desk as the room became more busy with other chatting teenagers.
Y/n: Oh well my mum thought we could use a change in scenery.
I explained vaguely, not wanting to get into the heartache and pain our old home brought us. There were too many memories we couldn't escape any other way than starting fresh.
Harrison: So you don't know anyone here?
Y/n: Nope, absolutely no one.
I confirmed, licking my lips and shying away at his obvious smirk.
Harrison: Well...
He began, the smirk growing in size.
Harrison: You know me now. Oh and that...
He said pointing behind me, and my eyes naturally followed the direction of his finger.
Harrison: Is my best mate Tom.
He finished, and my heart fluttered at the sight of him. His eyes locked onto mine and I felt the heat raise to my cheeks, revealing my vulnerable state as I continued to watch and smile as he came over. His hair flopped in every direction and his eyes, as deep as they would go were sweet like two perfectly carved swirls of chocolate.
Tom: Hi.
He spoke, his voice wavering slightly.
Y/n: Hi.
Harrison: Tom, this is Y/n. She's just moved here. Y/n, this is Tom.
He said, and Tom lifted his hand and waved it. Cute.
Tom: Hi.
He repeated, and I giggled and nodded my head.
Y/n: Hi.
Mr Carson: Okay everyone, take your seats please.
The teacher announced, so I sat at the desk in front of them, grabbing my textbook from my bag and unzipping my pencil case. I heard shuffling coming from their table, and listened out to what they were saying even though I really should have been focusing on the lesson.
Tom: Pssst-
I heard him whisper, intending for only Harrison to hear.
Tom: I think I believe in love at first sight.
*present time*
Harrison: Oh god, you haven't been waiting long have you?
He said as he rushed towards me, a guilty expression on his face.
Y/n: No no-
I assured him, the wrinkles on his forehead disappearing as I eased his worry.
Y/n: I only just got here myself.
Harrison: Oh well good. Shall we?
He held his arm out for me, and I looped mine around his as he took me to the bar. It was very elegant but oddly casual. The wall of faux flowers laced within the fake green leaves added class along with the golden cutlery and accessories around the place. But the drinks I must say were exceptional. I don't quite know how the time managed to escape us, but a few hours and drinks in we were laughing uncontrollably at the anecdotes we shared from our times together and over the last five years.
Harrison: What about the time we finished a four week project in six hours, the night before it was due?
He said, controlling his laughter before he took another sip of his drink. I laughed too, shaking my head at how wildly irresponsible we were.
Y/n: I have no idea how we managed to pull that off.
Harrison: Those were the times eh?
Y/n: Those were the times.
I said, and he ordered us another round of drinks.
Y/n: So, do you forgive me now?
Harrison: I suppose that was the deal huh. Yes, you are forgiven.
He said dramatically, and I rolled my eyes at him playfully as I tasted my new drink.
Harrison: So, anyone special in your life?
Y/n: No not right now. To be honest I'm too busy with work and uni. I mean, I've been in a few relationships but nothing too serious. What about you?
Harrison: Oh same. No one that's stuck around.
Y/n: Oh I'm sorry.
Harrison: I'm not.
He told me, his alcohol sunken eyes softening under the lights. They almost appeared translucent, like glass I could look through. His hand found its way to the side of my face, and I don't know if it was the safety in the familiarity of his gaze that kept me there, but whatever it was, it felt...nice. Warm. Neither of us broke out of it, I can't guess how long we would have stayed like that or if more would have followed if we hadn't had been interrupted.
Tom: Hi guys.
I heard, and Harrison and I instantly leant back against our stools. He stood there awkwardly watching us before my eyes slowly drifted away from him, down to his hand which was connected to another. I saw a girl staring back at me, a gentle smile on her rosy lips.
Hazel: Hi, I'm Hazel. Tom's girlfriend.
