Tom POV:

*on call*

Tom: Hey babe.

Hazel: Hey! I was just calling in to check up on you. Having a good time?

She asked, and I looked over my shoulder to Y/n underneath the stars, her thoughts lost among them.

Tom: Yeah...I'm fine.

I answered, not having the energy to explain everything. Especially since explaining to my girlfriend that my ex is at the wedding and hotel I'm staying at would require the strength I simply don't have.

Hazel: Good, so what time will you be home tomorrow?

Tom: Sometime in the afternoon hopefully.

Hazel: Okay great, see you then.

Tom: See you.

*off call*

I looked over to her again, still staring up at the sky mindlessly, she'd always had a fascination with the stars.

*Five years ago*

Y/n: Isn't it amazing?

She asked me, gazing up towards the heavens as we laid side by side in her garden. The smell of the food her mother had made followed us outside, reminding us of the delicious meal we had just eaten. Her hair fell messily around the grass as she folded her hands on her stomach, swaying her feet as she waited for my response.

Tom: What is?

Her smile turned to a frown as she angled her face towards me, not being able to hold in her giggle as she pointed up at the sky so my eyes would find my answer.

Y/n: The stars.

She stated, sighing knowing my eyes had fallen back down to her.

Y/n: I mean, they're so far away but it's like we can reach up and touch them.

She explained, closing one eye, stretching an arm out and pretending to pinch one between her fingers.

Tom: I'm more concerned about the things on earth I can reach out and touch.

I admitted, seeing her mouth form that gorgeous smile as she felt my arms snake around her waist and bring her closer to me. She pushed my hands off her and threw her leg over my waist before settling her body on top of mine, resting her chin on her crossed arms as she looked up into my eyes.

Y/n: Can you stay the night?

She asked, blinking her tired eyes and nestling closer into me.

Tom: Sure. Want to stay up and count the stars?

Y/n: You're on.

*present time*

Harrison: They're about to start their first dance.

He told me as I met him back at the front of the hall, the lights having dimmed for the couple.

Harrison: How did it go?

He whispered, shuffling to the side as people stood to have a better view of the newlyweds. All I did was shake my head, and Harrison knew better than to pry so his lips remained shut the rest of the dance. Some time during which Y/n must have slipped back in, sitting at the table she was at before. The rest of the night slowly fizzled away and I found myself helping a very drunk Harrison up to his hotel room. I held him up with one arm as I inserted the key card into the door, dragging him in and letting him fall onto the bed. His snores followed soon after which gave me the okay to go to my room just across the hall. I didn't do much sleeping that night, my mind being too preoccupied. I thought all this weekend was going to be was celebrating an old friend's wedding, having a few beers and making the most of this little getaway. But that has proven to be far from the truth. In the morning I checked up on Harrison who was unsurprisingly battling a heavy hangover. I chuckled as he complained about the brightness of the room as I pulled back the curtains and admired the view.

Harrison: I'm never drinking again.

He promised, sipping the glass of water I had poured for him.

Tom: Yeah, right.

I answered not believing him at all.

He groaned as he went over to his suitcase and got his clothes out to change into, yawning before asking me his questions.

Harrison: So how did you sleep?

Tom: Fine.

I told him, lying through my teeth.

Harrison: So you weren't up all night?

He asked, catching onto my lie.

Tom: No.

Harrison: Come on mate, don't you know I know you better than that.

Tom: Let's just go down to breakfast okay.

To Harrison's delight he wasn't the only one suffering from a hangover. He went immediately to the buffet before Rachael called me over to sit with them, Y/n looking down at her plate. I went over and smiled, briefly meeting her eyes and smiling so it wouldn't be awkward.

Rachael: Take a seat! Where's Harrison?

Tom: Just in the buffet.

I said, still standing.

Rachael: Well aren't you going to sit?

Tom: Actually I'm not that hungry, I might just go for a walk.

Y/n: Really?

Tom: Yeah.

Rachael: Oh okay, see you later then.

Y/n watched as I walked away to head out onto the fields.

Y/n: You can't ignore me Tom, we're staying in the same hotel.

I heard, seeing that she followed me out. Tom: For only a few more hours.

Y/n: So you're plan is to pretend I don't exist.

Tom: That's what you did.

Y/n: Tom-

Tom: Look I admit seeing you again hasn't been easy, but what happened between us was a long time ago and I've moved on so I'd appreciate it if we didn't bring it up.

I turn to walk again but she didn't give up, she could be stubborn when she wanted.

Y/n: You're still angry at me, and doing nothing is killing you, I can see that.

Tom: What do you want from me?

Y/n: Shout at me, yell, scream if you have to, just talk to me.

Tom: Fine. I'm angry because five years ago you left me without saying a word. You stood there and told me you didn't want me anymore and that was the most pain I've ever felt. We were together for three years and you acted like it meant nothing. You walked away pain free whilst I was miserable. You were everything to me and you left. Just like that. But what hurt the most was that you never even told me why.
