Tom POV:
The silence rested on our skins like dust, itching to be brushed off. I took the opportunity to steady my breathing as Y/n gathered herself in the shallowness of the air around us.
Y/n: Do you feel better?
She asked softly, recovering from my outburst. I continued to breathe heavily as I nodded my head, truly feeling like there was a weight off of my shoulder.
Tom: Yeah...I do.
She played with the straps of the watch she wore around her wrist and stared down at it is if she knew her gaze would make me feel even more vulnerable right now.
Y/n: Look Tom, I know you're not ready to hear me out yet, and that's completely fine.
She assured me. Was I really that transparent to her?
Y/n: I'm going to be back in London for a while, so if you're up for it, maybe we could meet up and...talk.
I say nothing and let my head nod as my answer. She smiles quickly and lets go off her watch, shuffling in place.
Y/n: Okay. Umm I should go back to the hotel to pack. Goodbye Tom.
Again, I can't bring myself to speak but she doesn't wait to spin around and walk away. I remember a time when the sight of her hair swinging across her back brought me so much pain, because I always hated goodbyes with her.
*five years ago*
Tom: Just stay for a few more hours.
I pleaded, tugging her hand as she resisted and still walked towards the door.
Y/n: I'll end up falling asleep.
She countered, letting my hand fall limp by my side as she slipped on her shoes. With her back towards me I wrapped my arms around her waist, resting my chin on her shoulder as I groaned in protest to her leaving.
Tom: Pleaseeeee?
She giggled in my ear before laying a soft kiss on my cheek, turning to face me and placing her finger on my lips to shush me since Harrison was asleep upstairs.
Y/n: I have to be up early tomorrow.
Tom: So?
Y/n: So, I don't need you clinging onto me and refusing to let me get out of bed.
She explained, poking my chest and opening the front door, a sudden cold chill slamming across my chest.
Y/n: I'll come by after.
Tom: Noooo I don't want to say goodbye yet.
I whined, pouting my lips and making her laugh again.
Y/n: You never want to say goodbye.
Tom: Because that means I can't see you. And I hate that.
I mumbled into her neck, leaving a cheeky kiss.
Y/n: How about I come home early tomorrow? Deal?
I tilted my head in pretend ponder and smiled as she placed her hands at the back of my neck, and I grinned knowing what that action meant.
Tom: Deal.
Y/n: Good.
She stated, kissing me long and slowly knowing I liked to savour the last one of the night.
Tom: I love you.
Y/n: I love you too.
She said, walking out the door, her hair trailing behind her in the wind.
Tom: Remember our deal!
I half yelled and whispered to not wake up the entire street, and she spun around tapping her temple to indicate it was locked in her mind.
Y/n: I will! Goodbye Tom.
She called back, and I waited for her to be completely out of view until I shut the door.
*present time*
Hazel: Hey! I've missed you.
I heard as soon as I got out of my car, turning to see a cheerful Hazel with her arms wide open for me. Her smile beamed across the road as I hurriedly ran over to her, taking her in a hug and spinning her around.
Tom: I missed you too.
I said, and welcomed a kiss from her before she took my hand and led me towards her apartment.
Hazel: So did you have a good time?
She asked me whilst unlocking her door and throwing her keys into a dish on the kitchen counter.
Tom: Yeah, it was nice. What did you do?
Hazel: Oh well, so I obviously went to have lunch with the girls, I told you about that before you left-
She did carry on talking after that, but I can't say I heard another word. All I know is my body nodded along and smiled every now and again, but my mind was already occupied.
Hazel: Tom? Tom?
Tom: Yeah?
I answered, realising I had been caught out.
Hazel: Are you paying attention to anything I'm saying?
Tom: Yeah...No. I'm sorry, I didn't get much sleep last night.
I admitted, and technically I was telling the truth.
Hazel: Was it because I wasn't there?
She asked, and I smiled thankful she couldn't fish out the full truth.
Tom: Hmm I guess.
She laced her arms around my neck and kissed me again, pulling away teasingly slowly.
Hazel: How about...we just get in bed and watch a movie. I'll make us some tea.
She suggested, and I kissed her again, thanking her as I headed to her bedroom. I shut the door gently and pulled out my phone, scrolling to her number. I never did manage to bring myself to delete it.
*on call*
Y/n: Hello?
Tom: Hey, it's me. You still in London?
Y/n: Yeah I just got back.
Tom: I'm ready. I want to talk.
Y/n: I'm free tomorrow? We can go to the cafe, you know the one we used to love.
Tom: Yeah I remember.
Y/n: Okay great, I'll see you then.
Tom: Okay.
*Off call*
Hazel: Who was that?
She asked as she put our mugs down on her bedside table.
Tom: Oh, just Harrison.
Hazel: Hmm anything I should be worried about?
She joked, lying beside me and snuggling into my chest.
Tom: Nothing at all.
