"Lucas!"
"Why are you here?" He sighs out.
"I was depressed and couldn't sleep so now I'm here. You have to cheer me up" I say with a grin.
"But you're smiling now" he points out.
"Smiling through the pain. Let's go have fun for once" I say with a bigger grin. The other employees looking really confused at our interaction.
"Fine-just stop making a scene" Lucas hushes.
"I'll be outside" I happily say as I basically skip out the doors of my hotel.
The moment I'm outside, my grin completely disappears as I return to my neutral face. I manage to sit down by the curb with my high heels.
I can already feel the stares of the people standing guard at the front door. I wait as I look at all the foreign visitors trying to get a booking.
"Get up. You look homeless" I hear Lucas' voice behind me but before I could look up, a hand grabs my arm as he hanks me up.
"Thanks. I didn't think I was going to be able to stand up" I awkwardly laugh.
"I'm pretty sure you would've asked the next person to walk by" Lucas sighs out.
"You know me all to well, my friend" I grin.
"Shall we go then?" Lucas asks.
I forced him to watch a movie in the cinema and headed straight for a restaurant afterward.
"Why haven't you been around?" I ask once we got our drinks. I only remembered the question now and got straight to the point the instant I recalled it.
"What?" Lucas asks, stirring his milkshake.
"Everyone has been asking about you" I add on. He scoffs.
"I highly doubt that" he says with a hint of disdain.
"I'm being serious" I tell him straight in the eyes. I sigh and sit back in my seat from his silence.
"I keep saying that you are a workaholic. I mean-you are but not like this and I'm starting to worry too" I say.
"Don't worry. Worry about yourself" he says.
"For your information, I've been doing just fine but you wouldn't know that since you are always working" every word comes out faster than the previous as I steadily glare at him. I realise my anger and take a breath before giving him my neutral look.
"You will work till the day you die" I say, completely serious. He turns his head, looking at the floor.
(French in italics.)
"Can I get you two anything?" The waiter asks. Waiters come at the worst possible times.
"Five more minutes" Lucas says, eyes glued to another world. I give the waiter a small apologetic smile at Lucas' attitude. The waiter nods with a look of 'good luck' in his eyes. I slightly nod and turn back to Lucas.
"Is something bothering you?" I ask. Lucas turns back to his milkshake, swirling his drink with his straw.
"Is it them?" I ask, referring to everyone I brought with. He stops swirling his drink.
"...Maybe" he reluctantly tells his drink.
"I just don't understand you" he continues, still not meeting my eye.
"You don't have to crack a code or anything like that. You can just talk to me and I'll try to give you an answer" I say and he finally looks me in the eyes.
"I just don't like this whole thing. What are you trying to achieve? What are we doing here? What are they doing here?" He speeds through questions.
"We've already been through this" I say.
"But I'm not satisfied with your answers. It doesn't sit right with me. This is just so out of the blue-well-more out of the blue than usual" he says.
