Maree's POV

I'm okay. Thanks for asking. I found the dude who drugged me, I'm pretty sure you can guess what I did to em. But nah fr, I have never written anyone before so this is weird as f*ck. At least you're getting out in four more weeks though. It's gone be up when I see you again girl. But imma write you later.

~Lucas

Smiling at the letter, I immediately got out a pen and paper writing him again. I loved the letter process, especially since they overnight the letters so it's like we're actually talking everyday.

Words can't describe how much I miss Lucas and I just saw him a few days ago. I feel like our time apart, only made our friendship stronger. Especially since all we can think about is when the next time we'll see each other.

In this letter, I decided to ask him about his job. Lucas never talks about it, he always tells me that it's boring or embarrassing but I really wanted to know.

Once I got though with my letter, I headed to Nixie's office. We talked about the usual, she helped me open up, I was comfortable talking to her about whatever.

"And August? Have you seen him lately? You know the girl he always hung around passed away yesterday."
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair.

"No I didn't know. I saw them leaving on the 3rd; but when I spent time with Lucas I opened up and I feel better." I told her honestly.

"What's going on with Lucas? Is he a friend, more than a friend?" She asked with a smirk.

"Best friend. Literally my heart in human form." I laughed at her facial expressions.

"Well obviously he makes you happy, I'm glad. Now if you don't have any more questions or want to talk about anything else, you're free to go."

I smiled and stood up.

"Bonjour." I smiled. She laughed and returned the phrase.

Walking out the door, I bumped into someone.

"Sorry, I didn't see you." They apologized.

"No it's okay." I laughed lightly, picking up my purse.

"Maree?" I looked up to see August.

"Oh, hey." I responded, not really knowing what to say.

He just stared at me. He didn't say anything, he looked as if he was out of it. Maybe because of the girl.

"I'm.....sorry for your lost."
He let out a deep sigh, backing up slightly.

"Thanks." He mumbled, so low I could barely hear him, he kept his eyes on me. Not in a weird way, but almost like he didn't know where else to look.

"Hey." Ian appeared next to me.

"Hi." I smiled, hugging him. He looked over at August.

"Everything okay?" He asked August. He sounded so protective, it caught me off guard but not in a bad way.

"Yeah. Uh, I gotta go." August responded lowly, walking into Nixie's office.

I felt bad, he looked so hurt, so sad.

My frown deepened as me and Ian walked to the café area.

"What's up? What's the story?" Ian asked once we got our food, sitting at the table.

"He's my ex. I broke things off, not realizing that I didn't want too. I acted on anxiety." I told him staring at my shoes.

"Why don't you make things right?"
