Chapter 13

Lucas's POV

"I'm here to see Maree Coleman." I told the secretary at the hospital.

She clocked on her computer even though she knows who I am. I've been to this hospital three times every month to check on Maree. I didn't get to come for the past two months because work has been getting hectic and then niggas can run sh*t like I do.

"They didn't tell you baby?" The lady asked. I looked up from my phone and looked at her.

Her face was unreadable.

"No....what happened?" I asked frantically.
She smiled softly.

"She woke up about two months ago. She's been home for the past month." She told me.

"Oh....." I mumbled. I pulled out my phone and immediately dialed her number. I told the lady thanks before heading out the hospital.

It rang a good five times before it picked up.

"Maree?" I asked. It was quiet on the line so I spoke up again.

"I know, I know I haven't said anything. But I did visit. I visited about five times the first month. I was just never able to say anything. It's all my fault. I caused you to do that. I know you didn't mean harm but it still hurt to see you with someone else. I didn't mean to hurt you. I swear. I just want you back. Maree. I'm sorry for everything. You know I never meant to hurt you. I was just scared. Ian never been this upset about a female. I just.........if you didn't make it........I wouldn't know how to handle it."
I finished talking and it was still quiet.

"I don't know what to say..." Hearing her voice made me smile. I haven't heard it in months.

"I thought you gave up on me. I didn't take the pills because of you; but it didn't help that you did that while I was feeling so low and sick."

I let out a deep sigh as I ran my fingers through my hair.

"I know. I'm so sorry." I apologized.

"I forgive you. I forgave you when you did it. I just......I don't want to confuse things." She told me.

"What do you mean?" I asked.
Before she could respond I heard someone in the background.

"Who's that baybeh?"

Just hang up. You knew this was going to come.

"So I was right. See this is why- you know what? I can't believe I felt bad for believing this when the second we break up you're with him." I semi yelled into the phone.

"I was in a coma for a long time Lucas. Don't do that." Even though I was heated, Maree never raised her voice.

"You couldn't even think to call me? I had to go up there and they told me you were released a month ago. How do you think that makes me feel?"

"I didn't think you cared. You left me in the driveway crying, trying to explain and you're upset with me now? Two months later? Lucas please."

Even though I couldn't see her, I knew she had rolled her eyes.

"I'm coming over there." I just need to see it for myself.

"Lucas you don't-" I hung up and grabbed my keys, heading to her house.

When I pulled into Maree's yard, she was already outside. She looked so beautiful. All the anger I had built up, immediately left. I just wanted to hug her and never let go. I couldn't even stop myself.

I immediately got out of my truck and wrapped my arms around her waist, slightly lifting her.

I heard her scream and I chuckled.
