Chapter 25

August's POV
(2 weeks later. Day before Maree's release)

A nurse had came into my room to give me my meds, but another patient needed her help so I took this as my chance.

I grabbed my duffle bag and left. Walking down the hallway, I kept my head leveled so no one would find me suspicious.

Once I made it to Maree's room, I saw her door already open. She was sitting on her bed, watching tv.

I walked in and she was already packed so I quietly grabbed her suitcase.

She turned around to see me.

"What are you doing? How did you get out?" She asked as she walked to me.

"Shh, we have to be quiet. Come on." With that, I grabbed her hand and pulled her out the room.

I headed for the back exit, the one where we didn't need a officer to get out.

I had already broke into the storage rooms to get our phones and my keys so I was good to go.

Jogging to my car, I told Maree to get in as I did the same.

Wasting no time, I threw the bags into the backseat and got into my car, driving away after I crunk it up.

"Can I talk now?" She asked. I nodded and sat back in my seat as I drove.

"Why did you just break us out? We had one more day." She said.

"You had one more day. They were going to keep me for another month. I overheard." I told her.

"Why didn't you stay?"

"I can't stay!" I raised my voice, making her jump.
"I can't stay in there another minute."

I reached in my pocket and gave Maree her phone.

"Just don't call Lucas." I told her. She didn't respond but she turned her phone on.

Maree's POV

as soon as my phone turned on, I texted Lucas.

To Lucas 💙: He took me. I don't know where we're going, I'm scared Luc.

In about ten seconds, he texted back.

Lucas: Share your location, I'll come and get you when y'all stop. You're gonna be alright.

Me: okay

"Maree" August called.

I looked at him and he gave me an uncertain look.

"I just want to be with you. I'm not going to hurt you or anything. I just want to be by your side." I nodded and laid my head against the window.

The ride was silent for about two hours, enough time for us to get to my house.

I already had my key in my hand, I just needed to be faster that August.

As soon as the car pulled into my drive way, I jumped out. I didn't even wait till he stopped.

I ran to my door, ignoring August calling me.

I unlocked it and ran in, closing and locking it behind me. August had ran up to the front door but I had ran to the back to make sure it was locked, it was.

I then ran to the garage, closing the padlock.

Once I knew I was good, I called Lucas.
