Peregrine Van Senden, known by most by her nickname, Poopsy, was an ordinary 11-year-old girl. However, not exactly. She had the power to see the souls of those who have passed, in other words, ghosts. The other children were unnerved by her strange power and often said mean things about her because of it. The one at her school who treated her the worst was a girl named Bertha. She had blonde hair in her signature hairstyle: on one side of her head, one long braid, down to her stomach, and on the other, three small, dreadlock-like braids down to her shoulders. She wore a purple cardigan. There were many blonde girls with purple cardigans in the school, but, Bertha's hairstyle, as well as her piercing eyes the color of rusted metal, made it impossible to confuse her with anyone.
One day, it was lunch at school and the children were eating their lunches. Bertha walked up to Peregrine. "Poopsy, you are ugly, creepy, and no one loves you. Everyone's scared of you, you monster!" said Bertha to Peregrine's face. Peregrine sat on her own, as she had no friends. She was a lonely child, a black sheep among the other, normal children. Peregrine cried: "It's not my fault!" as Bertha laughed at her. After Peregrine ate her food, her mother came into the lunchroom to pick her up. Peregrine's mother, Maria, drove her home. At home, Peregrine sat on the bed in her room and cried. Maria came in and asked if her daughter wanted anything from the shop, as she was going shopping to a convenience store. Peregrine declined and decided to take a nap, as there was a test earlier that day at school and she was tired. Peregrine did want something from the shop. She wanted an amulet to seal away her powers, but, she knew that such amulets weren't sold at convenience stores. It was the next day, and the sun was shining. Peregrine had oatmeal for breakfast, but, after finishing her food, she didn't immediately go dress herself for her mother to drive her to school. She took a knife from the kitchen drawer and thought to herself: "Maybe this will seal away my power? Maybe I can destroy the source of my power, like an aggregate of spiritual energy inside me, with this knife? No, I probably cannot do that. I'll just end up badly hurting myself." With that thought, Peregrine put the knife back in the kitchen drawer. Maria drove her to school. Lunch came, and Peregrine sat next to a transfer student named Garrison Duke. However, most of the others, like his classmates at his previous school, called him Grubs. He was called that, as he always ate a lot and had bad table manners. He had black hair, and lived near the school, unlike Peregrine, so, instead of having one of his parents drive him to school, he rode to school on his bike. When Peregrine and Garrison were sitting at their table, having a brief chat, Bertha walked up to the two's table. "So, Poopsy, have you seen any ghosts lately?" cackled Bertha. "I didn't wish to be born like this." sighed Peregrine. Bertha spat in her face and walked away. "You can't let Bertha talk to you like this!" said Garrison. "You don't understand. I have an abnormal power." said Peregrine, as she brushed her hair off her eyes. "Embrace it", smiled Garrison. "I can see ghosts too." Peregrine was surprised. "You can see ghosts too?" she asked her new friend. "Yes, I do. Don't think of yourself as a monster, or a mistake. You're special." said Garrison, before giving the girl a toothy smile. That day, Peregrine and her new friend were on a walk. They walked by an abandoned building and saw ghosts. They weren't frightened. This was usual for them. "I am finally happy. I finally have a friend." A few tears of joy rolled down Peregrine's cheeks as she thought that. "I don't need to seal away my power." thought Peregrine as she rode home together with Garrison on his bike.
2 months went by, and Peregrine and Garrison were best friends. Peregrine walked into school with a smile on her face. "Time for another day with my lovely best friend and classmate!" she thought. Suddenly, she heard a scream coming from the school bathroom. She ran inside to see what all the screaming was about. She saw Bertha standing above poor Garrison. He was covered in bruises, with a few bloodstained rocks lying next to him.
"Stop it! He's my best friend!" cried Peregrine.
"I know, that's why I'm throwing rocks at him." said Bertha with a sadistic smile on her face. She was enjoying what she was doing to the poor boy.
Peregrine took out a pair of scissors from her backpack, as she always carried them in her pencil case for handicrafts class.
"Stop now, or I'll call the teacher! If the teacher does nothing, I'll have to deal with this myself!" said Peregrine.
"All the teachers are on the upper floors. They won't hear you. The only one who could hear you is the custodian, and he's currently doing laundry. The washing machine is loud as all hell, so he won't hear you either! Fight or die!" said Bertha to poor Peregrine. Peregrine decided not to hesitate anymore. She tried to attack Bertha, but, Bertha threw a rock at Peregrine's hand, knocking the scissors out of her hand. Peregrine was hurt by the rock, but she stayed strong, as she wanted to save her only friend from the now crazy bully. She put on a brave facade and said: "That's all you got? I can just pick the scissors back up." When Peregrine looked down to pick the scissors back up, she saw that Bertha had stabbed Garrison in the eye with the scissors.
"You monster!" screamed Peregrine. "Me? You were the one who dropped the scissors onto his face!" said Bertha. She smirked and went upstairs to class with no signs of what she had done on her. There were no more rocks in her hands, and her clothes were clean, as no blood had splattered onto them.
"Garrison, you were the only one who understood me..." whimpered Peregrine.
"Pe...Peregrine..." moaned Garrison as his life ended. Peregrine was left to cry besides his dead body. After that, she left and called the police. Bertha was arrested. In court, Peregrine testified against Bertha. She told everyone what she witnessed that faithful day. Bertha was sentenced to spend time in juvie until she became 18 years of age.The end! Here's a bonus: a redesign of Poopsy/Peregrine!
Also, keep in mind that this story isn't created to offend the original author, Poopsy666, or to discourage them from writing. This is just my version of their story, remastered as I like it, and all the changes are just my opinion.
