Wow, I'm on a roll today.  Plenty of memories have come flooding back and I just seem to be typing without even thinking.  Please vote and comment, good or bad.

8 months later...............

Lacey and I had become inseperable since Mike's death. We did everything together and even arranged sleepovers at one anothers' homes whenever we could, remember, we lived 50km apart. Leanne had a new girlfriend that lived just down the road from me so she didn't want to drive back to Dunkfeld after every hockey practice. We decided that Lacey would come sleep at my house when Leanne visited her girlfriend. Twos company, threes a crowd and all that.

We usually just hung out after practice at my place and had a few drinks and then Leanne would go over to her girlfriend and fetch Lacey from my place at 6am so they could drive back and still be in time for work, seeing as they both worked in Dunkfeld. It had actually become somewhat of a routiine every Tuesday and Thursday.

Lacey's cousin, James also lived in Dunkfeld and was turning 21 the following weekend. I was regarded as part of the family since Mike's death and had been invited to the 21st as well. Lacey and I were discussing what we were going to wear while we sat on the couch under a blanket and I could feel her bare thigh touching mine as we chatted. It made my heart beat faster when I felt her touch. 'Stop it', I scolded myself, 'she's your best friend.'

The 21st arrived sooner than I had expected and I was standing outside Lacey's door with my suitcase in hand for my weekend sleepover for the party. Lacey opened the door with a wide grin on her face and pulled me into her apartment. I loved watching her smile, it seemed to light up the room around her...cliche I know, but true.

We proceeded into the kitchen and she grabbed a couple of ciders as we sat down at the kitchen table and chatted about the exciting events planned for the evening. James had hired a large hall down town, complete with DJ and catering, and there were going to be plenty of hot guys to dance with at the party. I must admit, Lacey's family was rather large and she had quite a few really good looking cousins.

After we had finished our ciders, we decided it was time to get ready and go to the party. We were both dressed rather plainly, which is how we usually preferred to dress, in demins and a shirt. After applying a small amount of make-up, we grabbed a a six pack of ciders each and headed to the 21st.

The hall was decorated in a cowboy theme and I was glad that we had dressed in denims so that we wouldn't stick out from the crowd. As we entered the hall, James grabbed me by the hand and pulled me onto the dance floor. He was very charming and I was aware that he was into me. 'What the hell,' I thought, 'Maybe if I got hot and heavy with James tonight I coud stop obsessing about Lacey',' which, by the way, I seemed to be doing a lot of lately.

I saw Lacey chatting with a crowd of guys by the bar and she seemed to be having a good time, but everytime I looked at her, she would frown at me disapprovingly and look away. 'What the hell?' I thought to myself, but ignored it and carried on dancing with James.

It was getting late and most of the people were starting to leave when I noticed Leanne and her girlfriend, Katy, motioning me over to the bar. "Hey Leanne," I greeted as I reached the bar. "I didn't know you were coming tonight? Lacey said you had other plans."

"Yeah," Lacey replied with a smirk on her face as she looked at Katy, "Katy and I were going to watch the UB40 concert but we couldn't get tickets. By the way, I hope you don't mind sharing a bed with Lacey tonight, Katy and I are also sleeping over and we kinda took over the spare room and put your bag in Lacey's room." Leanne asked with a grin.

"Oh sure, no problem," I replied. Lacey and I had often shared a bed before when she slept over at my place and there were other guests visiting from the hockey team.

"By the way," Leanne asked, "What's gotten into Lacey tonight? She nearly bit my head off when I told her we were sleeping over and when I asked her where you were, she just nodded in your direction and said something about you being busy with James all night."

I looked over at Lacey and noticed the scowl on her face as she stood in a group of people watching me. I walked over to her and smiled as I greeted her friends. "Hey Lace, you having a good time?" I asked. "Great!" she replied sarcastically, "I'm realy tired can we please go now?"

We said our goodbyes to everyone and I thanked James for a wonderful evening. He was about to pull me into an embrace when Lacey grabbed my arm and pulled me outside to the car. "What's your problem?" I asked as we got into my car and drove to her place. "Nothing," she responded. I carried on driving the rest of the way home in silence and pulled into the driveway. She slammed the car door and stomped over to the front door.

She unlocked the door to her apartment and threw her keys on the table as she stalked off to her room. "Lacey, did I do something wrong," I asked concerned. "Please just talk to me, I hate it when you ignore me."

"It's just......you don't know my cousin like I do, he's..... such a womaniser and I don't want to see you get hurt. You're my best friend and if things don't work out I don't want to lose you."

We changed into our pyjamas and climbed into bed facing one another. "I'm a big girl you know Lacey, I can take care of myself." I replied half irritated by her behaviour. "And besides, you will never lose me as your best friend, we mean too much to each other."

"D...Do you really mean that," she responded. Our faces were inches from each other and I studied her eyes as I saw a tear appear in one corner. I lifted my hand to wipe it away and unintentionally moved closer to her. When I looked down at her lips, they were millimeters from mine. My heart was pounding and I closed my eyes as our lips touched.

I was expecting Lacey to pull away from me, hell I was expecting myself to pull away, but something in the pit of my stomach seemed to explode as if it had been there forever and was now finally being released. We moved closer towards one another and our mouths seemed to open simultaneously as our tongues explored the sweet taste of one another's mouths. I wrapped my arms around her neck and pulled her even closer to me as she seemed to be doing the same with her arms around my neck.

I had kissed many guys in my 25 years of existence, but I had never felt like this before. Her lips were so soft and sweet and all I wanted to do was devour them, scared that I would never have the chance to taste them ever again.

After a few minutes of kissing each other hungrily, we both pulled away and stared at one another in confusion. "What just happened?" Lacey whispered to me. "I...I...I don't know." I stuttered bewildered. I did know one thing though, I wanted it to happen again.
