The Next Morning (End of Shift)
Stella's point of view
It was the end of shift and I was in the locker room getting my stuff to leave, Foster was in there and we were talking. "Good luck. Let me know how it goes." Foster said before leaving. "Thanks, I will" I said. I got all my stuff and left to go pick up Kiah from the babysitters.I picked her up and we arrived at the restaurant, Severide was already there because I could see his car. I just sat in my car for a minute taking a deep breath hoping this will all go good. I got out and opened the back door to get Kiah out. "You ready baby girl? We are here." I said to her. Kiah just babbled "Alright let's go inside baby." I said.
Nobody's point of view
Stella walked inside holding Kiah on her hip and the diaper bag on her shoulder. She scanned the room looking for Severide when she saw him in one of the corner booths. Stella walked over there, Severide was looking down at the menu when Stella said "Hey" "Hey. Here let me take this for you." Severide said taking the diaper bag from Stella. "Thanks" Stella said. Stella sat down with Kiah on one side of the table while Severide sat on the other side. "So this is her. She's beautiful" Severide said. "Well I can't take all the credit for that" Stella said. "Kiah can you say hi." Stella said. "Kiah babbled then said "hi!" in a low shy voice. "Hi there little one" Severide said looking at her with a smile on his face. The waiter came and took their orders and then brought them their drinks."Do you want to hold her?" Stella asked. "Yeah." Severide said getting up to get the baby. "Hey. You're so beautiful." Severide said looking down at his daughter who was babbling and playing with her fingers. "I'm surprised she's so open to you. She usually is just like that with me." Stella said admiring her daughter. "Does anyone from 51 know?" Severide asked. "Just 2 people" Stella said. "Brett and Foster?" Severide asked. "yeah" Stella said hesitantly. "So they knew that I had a daughter before I even did." Severide said a little angry. "Well I didn't tell them by choice. They weren't suppose to know." Stella said. "So they just somehow randomly found out?" Severide said with a bit of sarcasm. "Yeah basically." Stella said. Stella could tell Severide didn't believe her so she told him the story.
"Last week after shift Brett and Foster asked me if I wanted to go out with them and I told them no that I couldn't. So later that night they showed up at my apartment unannounced and it's not like I could've hid Kiah. And then from there they found out about what had happened between you and I." Stella said. "Okay but they didn't have to find out that she was mine." Severide said. "I had to tell someone it was killing me keeping it in. You should actually be thanking them though." Stella said. "And why's that?" Severide asked. "Without them finding out that Kiah was yours we probably wouldn't be sitting here right now. They are the ones that pushed me to tell you." Stella said. "That still doesn't make it hurt any less though" Severide said. "I know and I am sorry for that. Like I said my intentions weren't for you to get hurt." Stella said. The waiter brought their food and Stella took Kiah back to feed her.
They all ate and then Severide spoke up. "So how is she? Is she healthy? Reaching all her milestones?" he asked. "Yeah she's very healthy. At her checkup about a week ago her weight and height were good and she's starting to get her teeth in and she's been trying to crawl too." Stella said. "That's good. Does she sleep good at night for you?" Severide asked. "Yeah most nights she only wakes up a couple times but lately she's been more fussy since she's teething" Stella said. Severide just nodded his head admiring his little girl.
"Can I ask you a question though?" Severide said. "yeah" Stella said. "The morning after our fling, why did you leave? I mean if you stayed we could've potentially been together and I would've helped you through your pregnancy and the first six months of her life. We really could've been something. We still can be." Severide said reaching his hand to touch Stella's hand that was sitting on the table.
Stella hesitated and pulled back her hand slowly once Severide did that. "Kelly." She said looking him in his deep blue eyes and pausing before saying anything else. "We.. we can't. At least not right now. I can't be in a relationship right now, we just need to focus on Kiah and then maybe later down the road we can work on us." Stella said. Severide face turned to disappointment after hearing Stella say this. "Yeah that's probably best." He said sadly.
They finished up and then got ready to leave. Severide carried Kiah out to the car and put her in for Stella. "So what are we doing here? I mean I want to be with her and watch her grow up. I already missed six months of her life and I don't want to miss another second." Severide said to Stella. "I know, we are going to have to work out something that is simple and won't confuse her too much." Stella said. "Yeah. We can talk about later, maybe next shift?" Severide said. "Yeah totally. I'll see you next shift then." Stella said. "Bye." Severide said.
Severide's point of view
I had just gotten home from breakfast and Casey was in the living room watching tv. "Hey. There you are, I was wondering where you were at." Casey said. "Yeah just had some stuff to take care of." I said. "You hungry?" Casey asked. "Nah I already ate. Thanks though." I said. "You look distracted. What's on your mind?" Casey asked. "It's just... I.." I said trying to find the right words. "Kelly? What's up? Casey asked. "If I tell you, you can't tell anyone, at least for right now." I said. "Okay, what is it?" Casey asked."Yesterday, I found out the most shocking news ever. I have a daughter." I said. Casey's face dropped, having a shocked look. "Congrats brother!" Casey said hugging me. "So who's the mom? Anyone I know?" Casey asked. "Yeah, it's.. umm... it's Stella." I said. "As in the Stella that works at 51?" Casey asked with a curious look on his face. "Yeah." I said. "So Stella's pregnant? When did you two ever get together?" Casey asked. "No. No. Stella and I met before she worked at 51. It was before you moved in with me about a year and a half ago. We met at a bar, hit it off, came back here and she took off in the morning before I was up. I never saw her again till she started working at 51 but she just told me about Kiah yesterday." I explained to him. "So Kiah is your daughter? Are you for sure she is yours? Casey asked. "Yeah 100%. I mean she has my eyes, my nose, she's so perfect." I said thinking about her.
"You got any pictures?" Casey asked. "Nah. I didn't get any but you'll get to meet her soon hopefully." Severide said. "So are you and Stella a thing then?" Casey asked. "No. At least not for now. She said we should just take time to focus on Kiah for now." I told him. "Well that makes sense, babies are a lot of work and stress." Casey said. "Yeah but I feel like I am not getting the full story out of Stella." I told him. "Why do you think that?" Casey asked. "I don't know. Something just doesn't feel completely right. I mean she had been working at 51 for 3 months and she is just now telling me that I have a 6 month old daughter?" Severide said. "Well when she's ready she'll tell you everything." Casey said reassuring me.
