2 Weeks Later (Shift day)
Stella's Point of view
I had just woke up and my head was pounding. I took some aspirin and started getting ready because I had to work today. I had just gotten to the station and didn't really feel like talking so I went to sit on my bunk to be away from other people. While sitting on my bunk thoughts of different things just flowed in my head. The thoughts of those two boys still lives in my head, mainly when I am on shift. When i'm off shift I am usually to drunk or high to even think about that. Nobody really knows what I am going through they just have seen my behavior is different. They are always asking me if I am okay or need anything but I just tell them I am fine. I make sure that when I am on shift I am sober and I do my job so they can't say anything.
I know that going down this road isn't really the best and it just might get me back to were I was before the CFD, but I don't have people to lean on. I don't have a family, the only person I had was Grant and that was until I left him and got clean.
While I was sitting on my bunk I still had my headache but then my stomach started turning, like I wanted to throw up. I immediately ran to the bathroom and leaned over the toilet. Right as I was finishing throwing up and washing my hands a call came in "Truck 87 ambo 91 car accident 1597 South Beach Rd." I dried my hands and ran out to the truck.
Once we got there we got the people out of the car and then loaded them into the ambo. As we were cleaning up I didn't feel to good. I was getting all hot and sweaty and felt like I wanted to puke again. Then suddenly my knees got weak and I fell to the ground.
Nobody's point of view
"Kidd, Kidd" Vargas shouted as he ran over to where Kidd collapsed. "She's unresponsive call for an ambo quick" Vargas shouted. The ambo arrived five minutes later and they started loading her in. "How is she?" Vargas asked "She has a pulse, it's faint but it's there." The paramedic said. The ambo loaded up and took her to Chicago Med.Stella's point of view
I had just woke up and I was in the hospital. I don't remember much after cleaning up the accident, all I remember is feeling sick and falling.A few seconds later a Doctor walked into my room and closed the door. "Hi Stella, I am Dr. Manning. I took care of you. Do you remember what happened?" She asked. "I remember not feeling to good. This morning I woke up with a headache, I threw up, then I was on the scene and I felt nauseous and the next I know I am here." I told her. "Yes. So all those symptoms are common with your diagnosis." She said. "My diagnosis?" I questioned. "Oh yes. You're pregnant! Congratulations! She said. "I'm what?" I said in shock.
"Pregnant. You look to be about 2 weeks. The reason you passed out is from severe dehydration. So we are giving you fluids. I want to keep you overnight for observation and I'll discharge you in the morning. Is there anyone you would like me to call? Maybe the baby's father?" She asked. "No it's just me. I don't have anyone." I told her. "Okay well your whole house is out in the waiting room, would you like me to update them on your condition?" She asked. "Just tell them I'll be fine and that they don't have to stick around. Please don't tell them about the baby." I told her. "No problem. But now that your pregnant I recommend taking a break from firefighting till after your pregnancy." She said. "Okay. Thank you." I told her "No problem. get some rest." She said as she left the room.
I was still in shock from the news she told me. Not just that I am pregnant but I don't know who this baby's father is. I mean I know it's the guy from the bar with the blue eyes but I don't remember his name or anything about him.
All this worrying about the guy from the bar and being a single parent was stressing me out. I don't know anything about raising a kid. I feel like ever since that fire and losing those two boys my life is just going to hell. Maybe this baby is a new chapter, a chapter to start fresh. This is when I knew I had to shape up and get sober again, not just for me but for my baby.
