Adeline's P.O.V
I sat in the truck as I stared down at dad's stuff. I couldn't accept the fact of him being gone. I looked over to see Archie walking up to the car. He motioned me to get out so we could talk. I did and stood in front of him.
"I'm sorry."
"I know," I tell him. Archie pulled me into a tight hug making me wrap my arms around him. I heard Archie's phone buzz making me pull away from the hug so he can answer the phone.
Archie's P.O.V
I answered my phone while Adeline leaned against the truck.
"Archie?" I heard FP say.
"Yeah. Yes."
"They found him."
"What? The guy who killed my dad?" I asked. Adeline looked over at me in confusion.
"He turned himself in an hour ago," FP explained to me.
"Who is he, Mr. Jones?" I asked him.
"His name's George Augustine. He lives in Cherry Creek. No priors."
"Is he in jail?" I asked. Adeline looked more interested into what I was talking about with FP.
"No. He, uh... He made bail and was released."
"What? He's out? He should be rotting in a cell, Mr. Jones," I said. I could feel my blood boil hearing about the man who killed my father was out on bail. Adeline put her hand on my shoulder.
"He will be, but this is how it works. And, for what it's worth, the Chief told me the guy's real broken up about it. So..."
"He killed my father."
"Your dad's going to get justice, I promise you."
"Yeah. You're right. He will get justice. I promise you," I tell FP before hanging up on him.
"Archie, what's going on?" Adeline asked me.
"He turned himself in," I tell her.
"What?!" Adeline asked in shock. I headed over to the phone booth and looked for a phone book. Once I found his name and address, I ripped the page and headed towards the car.
"Archie! Stop! What are you doing?" Adeline called out.
"Getting justice for dad," I tell her.
Adeline's P.O.V
I could feel my head spin a little from all of the emotions I was feeling. I was hurt, shocked, and angry. But my anger was more towards Archie. I know I should be mourning with him but what he was thinking at the moment was idiotic.
"Archie, wait!" I called out as I followed him.
It felt like forever but I guess we found the right house. Archie headed straight for the front door. I could feel my heart beat fast as I tried to catch up with him.
"Archie! Wait! Let's just take a moment," I tell him.
"Adeline! He killed our father! Don't you want justice for him?" Archie asked me.
"Not like this!" I screamed at him. Archie pushed forward and headed to the front door. I followed him and tried to pull him away.
"Archie! Please. Let's go," I begged. Archie ignored me and pounded on the door. A man who looked like he was dad's age, opened it.
"Yes. Can I help you?" The man asked as he looked at the two of us.
"No. This was a mistake," I said quickly.
