Adeline's P.O.V
I sat on the couch as I read my book. It's been a couple of months since I moved to Chicago. I do miss my dad, Archie, and Beckham but I am a little more happy here with my mom. I start school soon. A private school. Though I hated the idea of it, it's still something to experience.
My phone started to ring making me look at it. I saw Archie's ID picture making me smile.
"Hey, Archie. How's everything down there?" I asked him.
"Adeline," I heard Archie sob.
"Archie. Is everything okay?" I asked him. I grew worried the moment I heard Archie sob.
"No. I have to tell you something," Archie said.
"What is it? Is everything okay?" I asked sitting up more.
"Something happened."
"What? What happened?"
"Dad's dead," Archie told me on the phone.
Everything felt like it was in slow motion. I let out a high pitch scream as I fell to my knees. Mom and Brooke ran over to me as I cried.
"Adeline! What happened?" Mom asked me. I continued to cry making mom take my phone.
"Archie? What's going on?" Mom asked. Mom gasped loudly before holding me close to her.
"I have to get back there," I tell her.
"We'll go as soon as possible. Go pack a bag," mom told me. I nodded before rushing to my room first.
Mom had bought a ticket back home for us. I couldn't stop sobbing the way there. Archie was waiting for us in the airport the moment mom and I got out. I rushed over to him before hugging him tightly. Mom joined in on the hug.
"What happened?" I asked him.
"Hit and run," Archie explained.
"Oh my God," I cried before falling into Archie's arms. Archie held onto me as I sobbed.
Archie and I didn't say anything on the way home. Archie held my hand as I looked out the window. I had the hiccups that I was trying to stop. But I couldn't.
It felt weird being back at home. I stared at the house I grew up in. The presence was much different this time. I almost broke down crying again. FP came over to explain what happened to dad. Archie sat in between mom and I on the couch.
"I, uh, talked to the sheriff up in Cherry Creek, and... Sounds like... what happened was Fred was...driving home to Riverdale when he... He pulled over to help someone's car that was stalled on the side of the road, and, uh... Another vehicle... came upon them way too fast and... He was struck by it," FP explained to us. I broke down crying again. Mom sobbed as Archie held her hand.
"No. No."
"I'm sorry, Mary. I'm sorry, Archie and Adeline."
"Did the other car stop? The one that... So, it was a hit-and-run?
"We have to find out who did it, we have to catch them," Archie said.
"No, Red, you don't even think about that right now," FP warned.
"Archie! For once can you not play hero?!" I snapped at Archie. I got up from the couch before running upstairs.
I managed to compose myself before going back downstairs. I felt like a mess. I heard the doorbell ring making me open it up to see Sweet Pea standing there. He held a bouquet of flowers in his hands.
