Chapter 6 - Take A Break

Lin POV

5:32 PM

I watch as Renée helps a weak Pippa off the stage. I can't believe her. I knew I shouldn't have let her come today. I had a feeling something was going to happen to her, but I let her come anyway.

"Ok, everyone. Last night, Phillipa's fiance cheated on her..." Everyone in the room gasps. "With my wife..." This makes the cast exchange shocked looks.

I continue. "I drove her home, and she went up to her apartment alone. I found out Steven had punched her.." I let that settle with the remaining cast before I keep going. "I ran up to her apartment after I saw Steven leave with a black eye, and Pip was on the floor, unconscious. We drove her to the hospital, and they cleaned her up, but now she has a minor concussion and a few bruises, which is why she almost passed out today," I finish, rubbing the back of my neck.

"I can't believe Steven would do such a thing!"

"I thought Steven loved Pippa.."

"Steven cheated with Vanessa??"

I look at Tommy, who is looking right back at me, with a saddened expression. I motion to the dressing rooms, so I can go make sure Pippa is okay, and Tommy gives me a nod.

Before anyone else can say anything to me, I sprint to the Schuyler Sisters' dressing room and open the door slightly. I hear what sounds like someone crying and a voice saying, "Everything is going to be ok. I know it's hard but you need to get over him at some point. You and I both know he isn't worth your time anymore."

I walk inside, only to see that the one crying is Pippa. I rush over and kneel down in front of her, placing my hands on her knees to brace myself.

"Renée, what happened?" I ask. I look over at Pippa. "Pips?"

"When she sat on the couch, she said that she wanted to call off the-" Renée starts, but then is interrupted by Pippa.

"I'm calling off the wedding..." She starts crying even harder.

"Oh. I'm so sorry Pips," I frown. "I mean, he got what he deserved." I continue, trying my hardest to contain my laughter.

"Lin! That's gonna make her even more upset! Don't tell her that." Renée whisper-screams to me, pushing my arm.

Pippa sniffs and laughs from beside us. "I mean, Lin is right." She wipes the tears from her face and smiles. "Can we go back now? I don't want to cry anymore."

"You're not going anywhere." I tell her. "I'll see if we can end rehearsal early tonight."

"Aw ok, but can we at least finish 'Take a Break' please? " She pleads. She takes a half drunk bottle of water from the small table beside her, and drinks the rest of the water. "Can we get dinner after at least? Please?"

"Sure, we can get dinner. I'll be right back, and I'll ask Tommy if it makes you feel better. Renée, can you stay with her?" Renée nods at me and I walk out of the dressing room, only to find the whole cast sitting on the stage in small groups. I see Tommy, and I hop off the stage into the pit.

"Hey Tommy. Do you think we could end rehearsals early tonight? I know you wanted to run through 'Burn' again, but I don't think Phillipa can do it. She also said she wants to finish 'Take a Break', but I don't think it's a good idea."

He stands there for a moment, thinking. "I mean, I guess we can end early. If you don't think she can do it today then she can do it another day."

"Cool, thanks so much! I'll let her know." I smile at him and get back onto the stage. I head to my dressing room as I hear Tommy tell the rest of the cast that rehearsals were ending early and we weren't finishing 'Take a Break'.

Pippa POV

5:38 PM 

"Pippa, I can't let you do 'Take a Break', I'm sorry. You have to remember you almost passed out five minutes ago!!" Lin says, despite my pleading. I look down at my hands resting in my lap. Lin's arms wrap around me, enveloping me in a hug. "I'm sorry, Pips." He whispers.

"It's fine, I know you're all just worried about me," I reply, hugging him back.

"Wanna go get something to eat? It's getting late," He asks, pulling away and putting his hand out to help me up. I gladly nod and take his hand.

"Sure! Where do you wanna go?" I ask him.

"We could get burgers. I've heard there's a really good place down the street," Lin smiles, walking out the door and down the hall to his dressing room. "Just let me grab a few things!"

I laugh and make my way down the hall behind him.

A few minutes later...

"Ok, ready to go?" Lin says as he walks out of his dressing room. He has on jeans and a shirt that says, 'Got Hamilton?'.

"Yep!" He takes my hand in his and we walk through the hall to the back door. He opens the door for me and together we walk down the street to the burger place.

When we approach the hostess, Lin says, "Table for two, please." and we follow the young woman to our table. She gives us our menus and we sit down. Right as she walks away, I hear a ding from my phone. I take my phone out of my bag and I see a tweet that says, "@Phillipasoo, what happened between you and Steven?" I click it and a picture of Steven and Vanessa pops up. This time, though, they are at a park, and they are both sitting on a picnic blanket. But, just like the last time, they're kissing each other.

I sigh and turn my phone so it's facing Lin.

"You've got to be kidding me. I can't with him anymore." I groan. "Now I'm definitely calling it off."

Lin frowns at the phone and takes it from my hand. "I think that means we both have important decisions to make."
