Chapter 30 - The Proposal

Pippa POV

7:45 PM

1 week later...

Me and the girls are in our dressing room, changing into our beige dresses for 'Alexander Hamilton'. Jazzy and Renée keep giggling, but when I ask them why, they ignore me and start talking about something different. It annoys me, but I just let it go.

Soon, it's time for the show to start.

"You excited?" A voice asks from behind me. They grab my arm and spin me around. I look up, and I'm face to face with Lin.

I nod quickly and smile. Lin looks nervous.

"Is everything ok? You look nervous."

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine," He gives me a reassuring smile and a hug. I kiss his cheek, and whisper, "I love you," into his ear.

The music starts, and Leslie starts to sing. Me and Lin hurry to our places, and the show goes on.

30 minutes later...

Tonight the cast has been acting incredibly strange. I notice everyone looking at Lin a lot more than they usually do, casting smiles back and forth every once in a while.

We finally get to the wedding part of 'Helpless', and I sing "Helpless..." right before giving Lin a kiss.

It lasts only a second until Lin backs away. I try to hide my hurt feelings so I stay in character, but I'm not sure how well I hide my frown.

The music stops, and Jazzy runs over to me, taking my veil off and the flowers from my hands. What's going on? We're in the middle of a show... My eyes promptly sweep over the cast, who are all smiling back at me.

I hear the audience gasp, and I turn to Lin, who was down on one knee in front of me. I gasp, covering my mouth with both of my hands. He reaches into his blue coat and pulls out a small box from one of the inside pockets.

Lin clears his throat and starts to talk. "I'm keeping this short for now because I know you'll want it to be private," He takes a deep breath and continues. "Phillipa Anne Soo, the moment I saw you as Natasha in The Great Comet I was blown away by your voice and your beauty. You're the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my entire life, and all I want to do is spend the rest of my life with you. I love you more than anything in this world. So with that being said, will you marry me?" Lin opens the box, revealing a beautiful gold ring with a diamond on it. It's the prettiest ring I've ever seen.

My eyes fill with tears and I feel them start to run down my cheeks. All I do is nod many times. Lin smiles and I hear everyone in the theatre start clapping. I give my left hand to Lin, and he slides the ring onto my ringless finger. Normally, I would have the ring that Lin gave me when he asked me to be his girlfriend on, but I had taken it off for the show.

He stands up, and I can tell he is crying too. I bring him closer to me, and kiss his lips. This time, he kisses me longer and hugs me.

I know our mics aren't on, so I whisper-cry into his ear, "I love you so much."

"I love you so much, too," He whispers back.

We look down towards Alex in the pit and motion for him to continue the music. He starts the orchestra again and the show continues.
