The following month went by quickly. I moved in with Eli only a week after the wedding and school started back up soon after that. At first it was hard getting adjusted to the pack house. I missed waking up to my mother in the kitchen or coming home to my dad on the couch but never the less, I still enjoyed my time with my mate. My husband.
Eli tried his best to spend time with me but handling the pack business and high school wasn't easy on him. Of course, I insisted that I help out but he refused. Our mini vacation in New York had convinced him that any minor inconveniences would throw me into a whirlpool of stress. But the stress was inevitable.
Walking through the hallways was nerve racking. I was constantly wondering if someone could notice my belly through Eli's oversized crewnecks. The cafeteria food somehow made me feel worse than it already did and I wasn't able to attend any of weekend parties that definitely contained illegal substances. Even though it didn't sound all that appealing, it was our senior year and I couldn't participate in anything.
As I hit my second month of pregnancy I could still get away with jeans and a sweatshirt. With the way they blasted the AC at school, no one really questioned why I wore a jacket all day. Unfortunately, as I moved into my third month and eventually my fourth month my jeans wouldn't button anymore. And although Eli always claimed he didn't mind, I would raid his closet for tops that would conceal my baby bump too.
"Damn it!" I grumbled as I failed to close another pair of pants. I threw the supposedly baggy jeans onto the pile of pants, waddling over to our dresser.
"Baby?" Eli sat up against the headboard, curiously watching as I traveled across the room. "Bri we don't have to be at your parents' house until noon. Come back to bed."
"None of my clothes fit!" I whined as I tore into his stash of sweatpants. "I don't have anything to wear! They're gonna know and you saw how suspicious my mom was last time."
He sighed as he swung his legs out of bed, "I told you we could get some maternity clothes. You'll be more comfortable too."
With his grey sweats clenched in my hand I turned to face him, "Do you seriously think that our moms won't recognize maternity clothes. That's practically screaming 'I'm pregnant'."
"Well I mean, you are," he chuckled.
I gave him a fed up glare, "Not funny Eli. I'm serious."
"Okay okay. You know...maybe we should just tell them. We can't wait until your third trimester so why don't we just tell them now?"
I sighed deeply as I took in what Eli just said. He was right, I couldn't hide a literal baby forever. And the longer we waited the more our parents would be upset with us. "Alright, we'll tell my parents today. But I still get to keep your clothes!"
He pressed his lips onto my forehead and gazed into my eyes, "Sure, if that's all it takes to make you happy."
-
"Mom?" I called out after I had unlocked the front door with the spare key I still had. "We're here! Eli's mom made some pastries that she wanted us to bring over too."
"I'm in the kitchen honey," she wiped her hands onto her kitchen apron. "Your father's upstairs getting ready. Apparently no longer having you in the house means he gets to get up an hour before lunch time."
I smiled warmly as I tugged my coat closer around my body. For the past few months I hadn't been fully hugging my parents in fear they would feel my tummy. Along with the baggy clothing and occasional nausea, my mom was growing highly suspicious of us both. After getting acquainted with my parents I finally shrugged off the coat, placing the basket of sweets on the kitchen counter.
