Elsie felt her heart pounding the moment the morning came around and she began getting ready for school. She was excited that the moment this school day was over, she would be packing to start her adventure. But at the same time, she was nervous. Not only about leaving home but about Demetria's reaction when her choice would be heard for all the class to hear.
"She's probably going to be a little upset when she realizes that we're going to Alola."
"Ee! Vee!"
"Swablu!"
Elsie looked over to see Prism and Sapphire staring up at her, clearly upset that she had mentioned the one that had insulted their dear trainer yesterday. They glared at the mention of Demetria and shook their heads.
"You're right. Now's not the time to worry about what others are going to think. This is our journey that's about to start. Sorry about that. Won't happen again."
Both pokemon nodded in approval and hopped onto Elsie's shoulders as she grabbed her backpack and walked out the door. The first thing that she noticed was that it was quiet when she left her room, indicating that all the shouting had stopped.
'Still, usually when the fighting goes on late at night, it usually just starts right back up in the morning...I better get out of here before that happens.'
Elsie wasted no time walking out the front door and immediately heading down the same path she always took when going to school. On the way there, Elsie quickly noticed Demetria catching up to her, linking their arms together the moment that she was close enough.
"Oh, good morning Demi."
"Morning Elsie. Ready for school today?"
Elsie nodded with a smile. "Yep."
"So about yesterday, no hard feelings right?" Demetria then asked. "Just because you're too scared to go on a journey doesn't mean that you shouldn't celebrate the good grade you got."
"Right. No hard feelings. I've done some thinking and figured out what I wanted to do."
Prism huffed in response, turning away from Demetria. To her, saying no hard feelings wasn't exactly an apology that her dear trainer definitely deserved.
Elsie took a breath as they walked into their classroom. She first noticed Alice, talking with the teacher, who nodded at whatever she said before writing something down.
'That must be where I sign up for my region.'
As Demetria sat down, Elsie went over to the teacher's desk.
"Good morning Elsie." the teacher greeted as the student walked up.
"Good morning. I made my decision." Elsie said. "I wanna have my journey in the Alola Region."
The teacher nodded and wrote her name down. Upon closer examination, Elsie saw the papers were sign-up sheets for each region.
"I'm proud of you, Elsie." the teacher praised. "Having the courage to do this. You'll really come out of your shell."
"So you decided to go after all." Alice smiled. "Great. The others and I are gonna grab some items we might need for our trips after school. You should come along with us."
"Yeah. I just might take you up on that."
"Great. See you after school then."
As Elsie went to her desk, she couldn't help but notice Demetria looking at her, as if she was trying to figure something out.
'She must be trying to find a way to make sure I didn't choose to go to any region.' Elsie thought before sighing and focusing on her school work. 'Well...she's just going to have to wait to get the news. Not like she can do anything about now anyway.'
...........
"What do you mean you're going to Alola!?" Demetria stood over Elsie's desk, stopping the girl from going any further. "I thought you were forgetting about going anywhere."
"W-Well...if I gave you that impression when we talked yesterday then I'm sorry," Elsie said, immediately becoming tense the moment Demetria raised her voice. "But I really do wanna go to Alola. Prism and Sapphire do too."
"But you're not going to do anything." she countered. "You're too scared to even have a real pokemon battle."
"Part of the reason to go on a journey is to better yourself anyway," Elsie said in a quiet voice.
"Oh so now you think that you're better than me?"
Demetria took a step forward and Elsie took a step back. Demetria's Eevee whimpered, trying to get her trainer to stop but the girl paid no heed to her partner.
Elsie gripped the straps of her backpack as she looked down at her feet. There were plenty of things that she wanted to say that could probably end this confrontation but her body just wouldn't cooperate, just standing there as if she was paralyzed.
'I know I'm not going to back down...I know that no matter what I'm going to Alola...why can't I just tell her that!?'
Suddenly Prism jumped down from Elsie's shoulder, growling, which snapped Elsie out of her swarm of thoughts and caused Demetria to back away in surprise.
"P-Prism...there's no need for fighting alright. Wait that was a bad choice of words. N-Nevermind, let's just-."
"There you are El, ready to go?" Alice asked. "We're planning on going now so we have plenty of time before the shops close."
"Yeah. I'll be right behind you."
Alice nodded and walked out of the room and Elsie quickly picked up her Eevee and walked past Demetria. Prism kept her glare on the girl but her face immediately softened when she saw the worried look on Elsie's face.
"Ee..."
Elsie gave her pokemon a reassuring smile. "It's alright Prism. I know that you were just trying to defend me. Let's just get this day over with so that we can start packing for Alola."
"No way! You're actually going to Alola!?"
Suddenly Hau came over, walking with Elsie. There was a pokemon with him this time. It looked like a Raichu in some way but lighter in color and standing on its tail in midair.
'That must be an Alolan Raichu.'
"U-Uh yeah. It just seemed a lot more interesting than the other regions. Oh, I'm Elsie by the way. And these two are my partners, Prism and Sapphire."
"Cool nicknames. How did you come up with them?"
"Oh, well for Sapphire the explanation is pretty simple. I thought the blue on her was pretty like a sapphire so that's what I named her. Then for Prism...I came up with her name to represent all the possibilities she could have if or when she ever decided to evolve since if you shine a light on a prism, you get a rainbow on the other side." she explained. "
The two of them continued to talk briefly until Elsie saw Alice waiting for her outside. She quickly said goodbye to the Alolan Trainer before meeting up with the rest of her friends. Though passing by Demetria who was also walking out, she saw the scowl on her face. Elsie sighed and shook her head.
'I told Prism and Sapphire that I wasn't going to worry about what anyone else thought and that's what I'm going to do. This is our journey and no one else's.' Elsie reminded herself.
Once home after the shopping spree, she had begun packing. Because of the letter that was sent from the school, her family already knew that she was going to another region. Hau would show up at her door next week to take her to Alola with him.
"It'll be nice to finally have some peace and quiet," Elsie said aloud and her two pokemon nodded in agreement.
"Hau said that he would let us meet Professor Kukui when we get there and that we could possibly get a pokemon from him if we wanted to. What do you two think? Should we add another teammate at the very start of our Alola journey or wait a bit until later?"
"Vee!"
"Blu!"
"So add a new member to our team the moment we get there. Got it. Well, it's getting late and we should get some rest...before Sapphire decides to knock us out using Sing, Prism."
They all got to their respective resting places and went to sleep.
