It was Beam's mom's birthday and the Vongviphans had asked Beam to invite Kit and Pha to their place for dinner and Beam could not refuse his mom's wishes, especially on her birthday. So, here they were, at Beam's childhood home, being greeted enthusiastically by his mom, "Oh, my babies" she cooed pulling Pha and Kit into a hug, "It has been way too long, and you guys look so skinny. Have you been starving yourselves?" she chided.

Pha laughed and gave the tiny woman another hug and said, "You always say that mom." The three had been friends for so long that they had practically grown up in each other's houses, so they called all their parents' mom and dad. Both Kit and Pha wished her a happy birthday and she the dragged Pha and Kit inside, directly to the dining table saying, "come now, I need to get some meat on these bones let's eat.

Beam was left standing at the door mouth agape, "Umm hello Mom! Happy Birthday! This is your actual son Beam." he said pointing to himself, "just in case you forgot." His mom just waved him in saying, "Oh Beamie, come in, what are you waiting for? I see you often, unlike these kids." Pha and Kit stuck their tongues out at him and walked in. Beam just shook his head fondly at her and followed them.

So, here they were sitting at the dining table with a whole lot of delicious food laid out. Dad had greeted Pha and Kit, not quite as enthusiastically as mom, but immediately started asking them about work because Beam's dad was a highly respected neurosurgeon who was very interested in what the bays were up to, professionally.

They then started eating and talking to each other and it was so much fun till Kit leaned in and told Beam's mom about the blind date disaster and also complained about Beam not giving people a chance. Beam didn't give his mom a chance to respond, he said, "Mom, before you say anything, I did give it a shot and he is now my architect. He's doing my backyard."

His dad heard that and commented, "Oh good. You're finally fixing up that disaster. I told you that I'd lend you money if you need it but no, you have to be stubborn." His dad criticized. His mom glared and him and then looked at Beam with a gentle smile "Oh Beamie, I just want you to be happy. Don't obsess over what other people think" she looked pointedly at his dad "and pay attention to what you need." Beam still couldn't help but feel like he was disappointing his dad by not meeting his high standards. So, by the time they all were ready to leave, Beam was in a bad mood.

Pha and Kit both sensed that Beam needed some cheering up and suggested that they go get a drink together to end the night. So, the three of them went to a club that they used to frequent where they were met by Ming and Yo.

Beam did not know that they would be coming as well, he thought that for once it would be just them, like the old times and he could finally not be the fifth wheel. But he instantly felt bad for even thinking that because they were his friends too and he realized that he was just being bitter.

The night started off great and they all had fun talking about lighthearted things. Within a couple of hours, Yo was nodding off and Ming was knocked out. So, Pha turned to Beam and Kit, "Well it looks like we need to call it a night." While he looked at Ming and Yo. Beam was only slightly tipsy whined, "But it's not even midnight." Kit shook his head and said, "I'm sorry Beamie, we had to get home too. Beam then convinced them that it was okay for them to leave but he was going to stay a while longer.

Once his friends left and he was alone, he looked around to see that the dance floor was packed. He did a cursory scan, but no one piqued his interest even slightly. He then caught sight of a couple on the dance floor who looked like they were in their own world. They were dancing so close together and whispering what he imagined to be sweet nothings into each other's ears when the taller one leaned down and kissed the others neck and the shorter one giggled. There was something so sensual about their movements and their gentle touches. It got beam all hot and bothered and he could feel his face heat up and he was glad that the place was dark because he was sure that he was as red as a tomato. He grumbled "It's been way to long" to justify to himself why he got turned on by watching two strangers dancing.

He got up and left the place before he did something he would regret. By the time Beam got home, it was 1:00 am. He entered his house and immediately started unbuttoning his shirt, when he saw that the light was on in the backyard. He walked to the door and saw that Forth was alone, doing some work. So, he opened the door to say hi.

Right as he slid the door open, Racer barked and ran right up to him. Forth noticed Beam and immediately yelled, "No Race! Come back here." Beam shook his head and said, "No, that's okay." And started gently petting his head. Though he looked a little unsure about petting him Forth's heart beat just a little louder seeing the handsome doctor pet his dog. He was taken aback when Beam looked back up at him and said, "I'm hungry. Want to get some Chinese takeout?" Beam's cheeks were flushed, and he looked unusually relaxed and there was no way Forth was going to pass up an opportunity to spend some more time with Beam, so he readily agreed.
