Something New

Chapter 20

Beam tried to act as normal as he could, but every time he saw the other couple, his stomach turned. So, when Joss was busy talking to a couple of people, Beam excused himself and rushed out of that place and into a random room that was luckily unoccupied. He immediately facetimed Kit and Pha because he was so upset and worked up that he needed them to talk him down. It was Yo who answered Pha's phone.

Yo's smiling face quickly morphed into one of worry and he said, "P'Beam, are you okay? What is happening?" Amid his panicked breathing, he stammered out, "Frth's he..re.." Yo's worry peaked and he yelled to Pha, "P'Pha, you need to come here right now." Pha initially looked annoyed and asked, "What is it?" while reaching for the phone, but as soon as he saw the state Beam was in, his face changed into one of concern.

Pha knew that he needed to remain calm and help Beam through his moment of panic. So, he slipped into doctor mode and in a soothing tone said, "Beam, I need you to look at me." Once Beam did that he continued, "Now, take a deep breath in and let it all out, in and out, as easy as that, in and out, nice and calm." Beam followed his instructions and soon got his breathing back to normal, but he still looked pale.

At that exact moment, Kit connected and was super confused, looking at Beam's pale face, he said, "What the fuck is going on? Beam, where are you right now? You look like you are going to pass out." Beam remained quiet, still trying to recover. Pha said, "I don't know either. He called and was hyperventilating." Beam then looked at their concerned and anxious faces and took a deep breath and explained everything."

Beam had expected some nice and supportive words from his friends, but what he got was a pissed off Kit who yelled, "Baramee, are you an actual idiot? You are the one who broke up with him. You are the one that broke his heart. And now you're shocked that he has moved on?! Are you kidding me?" Beam didn't know how to react, so Pha stepped in and said, "Kit, you need to calm down."

That was the wrong thing to say because, Kit screamed, "DO NOT ASK ME TO CALM DOWN PHANA." And he continued, "And did you forget that you are with someone now? P'Joss, who you have been dating? Jeez, hypocrite much?" He then shook his head and said, "Gosh, you are such an asshole. I can't talk to you right now." And cut the call.

Pha spoke to the stunned Beam and gently said, "Beam, listen to me. Don't worry about what just happened. You know how he is. Just focus on getting through this party and come over to our place. We will sort this out." Beam just gave him a wordless nod. Pha added, "Find a washroom and splash some water on your face before you rejoin them, you look like you're going to pass out." Then he encouragingly said, "Come on Beamie, snap out of it. I know you can handle it." Beam gave him a tiny smile and said, "Alright, pray for me and I'll see you later." and ended the call.

Beam did not know how he got through the party, without losing his mind. It might have had something to do with the fact that he had not seen the couple around after his mini episode. He was thankful for that. Once they were done with the party, and they were in the car, Beam said, "P'Joss, can you please drop me off at Pha's place." When he received a questioning look, he added, "He called me and said that he needed help with something and it's pretty urgent." Joss nodded and said, "Oh, sure. Should I come in and help?" Beam shook his head and said, "No, no, just a ride would be enough."

Joss then pulled up at Pha's place and Beam jumped out of the car as soon as it rolled to a stop, without even giving Joss a chance to lean in. He thanked Joss and waved him goodbye and guiltily walked into his friend's house. Yo immediately have him a comforting hug and took him into their living room. Beam was shocked to see that Kit was also there.

Before Beam could say anything, he had an armful of Kit. He hugged his shorter friend back just as tight and couldn't help but tear up a little. Pha just looked at the two idiots he loved and turned to his boyfriend and said, "Sweetheart, can you give us some time?" Yo nodded understandingly and left the trio to sort everything out.

Kit pulled back a little and said, "Beamie, You know I love you and I'm so sorry I acted like that when you needed me. It was wrong. That was not the time or the place to do that." Beam chuckled and said, "I love you too Kitty. Who better to call me on my BS, I know that you feel bad, but don't. We're good." Kit smiled and gave him another squeeze before dragging him to the couch where Pha already was. There the three best friends sat and just held Beam from both sides. He felt safe and loved and that's what he needed.

Pha wanted Beam to sleep over because he didn't want him to be alone that night. But he refused because he had work the next day and he couldn't take the day off. So, Pha settled for dropping him off. Once Beam got back home, he was feeling, marginally better, so stripped off the suit and took a nice soothing shower and just as he got into his PJs while he was drying his hair, his phone started ringing.

Beam picked up his phone and groaned when he saw that it was his dad. He did not want to deal with his dad, but he answered because he knew that he would just keep texting and calling till he picked up. He let out a sigh and said, "Hi dad!" His dad forewent all the pleasantries and just asked, "Are you with Joss right now." Beam sarcastically said, "I'm fine dad, how about you?" but added, "No, I'm not. What's up?" His dad sounded disappointed when he said, "Oh that's too bad."

Then he continued, "Your mom and I want to have you both over for dinner this weekend. Before you make up an excuse, I'll let you know that I already texted Joss and he told me that he was free. So, you have to come. No is not an option." Beam just sighed in defeat and agreed while thinking 'somebody, please shoot me now, put me out of misery'. And that night he had the worst sleep ever, filled with nightmares involving all the people in his life and the people who weren't.
