Chapter-31 The Proposal

Manik looked at the clock and said- So are you
going back or should we go back home?

Nandini was too tired to go back. She called the hospital and said- "Yeah Dr. Nandini here, I've seen the reports and met the patient, we will be starting the sessions tomorrow."

Manik tucked Nandini's hair behind her ears and said- "Let's go home"

Nandini kissed his hand lovingly.

4:00 AM

There was absolute silence in their room. Manik was sleeeping peacefully when he heard Nandini's whispers- 'Leave me please, please Harsh'

She was profusely sweating with tears rolling down her eyes. Manik woke Nandini up and wiped her tears. He didn't say anything just helped Nandini lay her head on his chest.

Manik knew that this case wasn't going to be easy. But he knew together they'd overcome everything.

Nandini fell asleep listening to Manik's heartbeats. Though Manik felt uncomfortable after a while he didn't flinch one bit. Seeing Nandini sleep comfortably was all he wanted.

Next Morning

Nandini woke up and got ready for work. She kissed Manik's cheek while he was still asleep and left.

Manik smiled as he felt the touch of her lips on his cheeks. It was a good morning for him indeed.

Nandini reached the hospital by 9 A.M and went to Harsh's ward. She entered quietly and saw Dr. Goswami talking to Harsh.

Dr Goswami- "Good morning Doctor, your patient is eager to see you"

Dr. Goswami left leaving the two of them in an awkward silence.

Nandini smiled at Harsh and gently said- "Okay so I'm your doctor and I'll be taking your sessions starting today, you have one hour to freshen up and then I'll see you"

Harsh- Sure doctor

As Nandini left the cabin, Harsh smiled to himself and said- "You are too naive Nandini, too naive"

Perhaps his memory was alright all this while, then why was he faking it? To get back at Nandini? To destroy the newly founded love between Manik and her? Perhaps no one knows

Nandini sighed as she reached her cabin, this case was indeed going to be tough one, just then her phone buzzed, it was a text from Manik-

"You've got this, remember you are brave and I love you"

Nandini held her phone near her chest, a warm fuzzy feeling engulfed her. At that moment she felt too lucky to have someone like Manik.

The session went smoothly and Harsh left no stone unturned to deliver his amazing performance of having amnesia.

Nandini rang the bell and Manik opened the door.

Nandini excitedly showed him two cute packets- "I bought Chinese!"

Manik looked at the packet happily and said- "Oh I could hug you! I was craving some kickass noodles"

Before opening the packet Manik said- Wait but did you get-

Before Manik could complete Nandini tip toed and whispered in his ear- "Yes Chilli Garlic Noodles with extra chilli, anything else sir?"

Manik giggled and put his arms around her neck- Wow you remember my order by heart, impressive!

Nandini winked at Manik and said- I remember a lot of other things by heart too.

Manik pulled her by her waist and slammed her near the wall. Their faces less than inches apart, they could feel their bodies rub gently.

Manik moved forward to kiss Nandini, their lips first gently locked but soon the kiss started to gain momentum. Nandini's hands clutched Manik's hair and Manik's hand hovered over her body.

Their lips entwined into each other's so tight that after a while they were left breathless.

Manik rested his forehead against hers and smiled.

In that moment it was just the two of them, with their foreheads touching gently, holding hands and racing hearts. Just the two of them.

At the Hospital

Harsh was comfortably lying on the bed busy on his mobile when he heard a knock, he hid his mobile quickly and said- "Come in"

A man entered with his face covered. He handed over some reports to Harsh and said-

"Here are your fake medical reports, but you need to move fast! Take that girl and get out of here!"

Harsh got up and said- "Don't worry, Manik is going to get the shock of his life tomorrow when he sees his beloved girlfriend sleeping next to me."

Both of them laughed

Nandini was asleep after dinner, while Manik was standing in the balcony with a box in his hand.

He opened the box as moonlight shined right over it. It was a ring, yes he was thinking of proposing the lady he loved beyond words.

Next day after office Manik was was waiting for Nandini outside the hospital but she didn't come out. It was getting late and there was no sign of her.

Manik worriedly asked the hospital staff but no one knew anything when suddenly he felt someone hand him a chit.

He looked around but the person had already disappeared.

He opened the chit and it read-
Go to room 1234

Manik rushed to room 1234 and got the shock of his life.

He saw Harsh and Nandini cozily cuddling under a blanket. Manik's heart started racing. He was perplexed at the sight.

The ring from his hand fell making a sharp sound. Nandini woke up and was shocked to see herself near Harsh who was smiling looking at her.

Nandini looked at Manik who was equally shocked. Manik rushed to Nandini, helped her get up and said- "What are you doing here, Nandini."

Nandini held her head tightly and said- "I don't remember Manik, me head feels heavy."

Manik looked at Harsh angrily and said- " I really want to punch you in the face but I really don't want to dirty my hands.

Harsh put on an innocent face and said- "Dr. Nandini insisted to share a bed with me sir so how could I refuse."

Manik seethed with rage, he moved to hit him but Nandini held his hand and said- "No Manik this is a hospital, let's go home"

As they were leaving Nandini saw the ring lying on the ground. She looked at Manik with tears in her eyes.

Manik picked up the ring and said the words which no one was ready to hear, the words that would change everything.
