Chapter-30 Memory Loss

Nandini hung up the phone and said-

"There's this emergency case Manik and the hospital needs me, I need to go"

Manik- "But didn't you resign from your job before joining my firm?"

Nandini- "Yeah I did but it's an emergency and the senior doctor there is on leave so they need me"

Nandini changed her night clothes and wore a white kurta with dazzling jhumkas . She hurridely started collecting her stuff. Manik offered to drop her but she said-

"No baby I'll manage, it's so late you should sleep right now!"

Manik gently kissed her cheek, picked up his car keys and said- "I'm waiting outside!"

Nandini nodded her head giggling because she knew he'd never let her go alone.

They reached the hospital. Nandini quickly kissed Manik's cheeks and said-

"Thanks baby! I'll be back soon."

Manik nodded his head and said- "I'll be waiting Miss. Psycho"

Nandini laughed and playfully hit him.

Nandini- "Please stop calling me that Manik!"

Both of them got out of the car and Manik quickly grabbed her in his arms before letting her go. Nandini rushed inside the hospital. The nurse quickly took her bag and directed her to the emergency ward.

Nandini- "Yes Dr. Goswami quickly brief me about the case."

Nandini began reading the file which he gave her while the doctor spoke-

"Traumatic brain injury it seems ma'am. The patient met with a car accident, his condition is under control ma'am but he cannot remember anything."

Nandini nodded her head while reading the patient's file and said-

"Okay what's his name?"

Before the doctor could say anything Nandini interrupted him and said-

"Oh leave it I'll just go and check on him."

Nandini entered the patient's ward quietly and saw a young man lying down with his back facing her.

Nandini quietly tapped on his shoulder. There was something strangely unfamiliar about this man. Something so old yet so new.

And as the man turned to face Nandini, Nandini was beyond shocked. It was as if someone had punched her right inside her gut.

Her eyes widened and her hands trembled. Her voice quivered as she began to speak.

Nandini- "H..Harsh?"

The young man confusingly looked at her and said- "Do I know you,miss"

Know? This guy who supposedly was Nandini's best friend had tried to sexually assault her months ago. The trauma of which Nandini could never ever forget.

She rushed outside and ran like never before. She was panting and got all sweaty. Manik who saw her panting came running to her.

He held her by shoulders and said-

"What happened Nandini? Why are you panting and why were you running?"

Nandini's vision was blurred by her tears.

Manik became really concerned about her. He took her in his arms and buried her face on his chest. He gently whispered in her ear-

"It's okay if you don't want to talk right now. Let's sit in the car and I'll get you some iced coffee."

After a while Nandini composed herself and was ready to speak. Manik enterwined their fingers and was all ears to what she had to say.

Nandini- The emergency patient that I went to see was.. well, um Harsh.

Manik- What the? Are you sure you are not mistaken?

Nandini looked outside the window as it began raining and whispered-

"I can never ever forget his face Manik. It was really him."

Manik was shocked too.

Manik- "So what happened to him?"

Nandini- "Traumatic Brain Injury, he seems to have lost his memory."

Manik- "It's okay if you don't want to take this case Nandini, we can talk to the hospital."

Nandini- "No Manik, it's actually alright. The doctor will be back by next week so it's fine"

Manik smiled at her and said- "I'm with you in whatever decision you make Nandini"

Nandini kissed his cheek and looked outside the window. The rain started to slow down now.

Whatever destiny had in store for them , she knew if he was by her side nothing could ever tear them apart."
