"That's Malfoy's father," Maya pointed out as she peered around the corner with her brother at her side, "Abraxas Malfoy."
"Keep your voice down," Sirius hissed, "I can't hear what they're saying."
"You wouldn't be able to hear what they were saying even if I was silent, you moron," she pointed out, "They're using Muffliato."
"How on earth do you know that?"
"Because they always use it," she explained, standing up right. "We can certainly make our own assumptions about what they are talking about."
"Okay..." Sirius trailed off, "So then what are they talking about?"
Maya rolled her eyes, "We should get our stuff so that we aren't running behind. They'll be here soon."
"Ah yes, our dearest cousin's," Sirius responded with a shake of his head.
"We don't need you being the reason we almost miss the train again."
"Alright, alright," he rolled his eyes, "It'll only take me a moment."
-
"If I didn't enjoy your company from time to time, I would kill you," Maya hissed as she followed her brother through the train. "I can't believe you did that!"
He glanced back at her briefly, "You think I wanted to sit next to her?"
"She hates you," she pointed out, "She would have just ignored you. Maybe shot you a glare or two but it wouldn't have been the most miserable car ride you've ever experienced!"
"The train hasn't even started moving and they're already fighting," James spoke up as the pair entered the compartment, "We're in for quite the ride."
Sirius sat down next to Peter on one side of the compartment leaving Maya to slide into the side with James. She took the opportunity to whack him upside the back of the head.
"What was that for?" he exclaimed, rubbing the back of his head.
She narrowed her eyes, "My patience is already low, don't test me."
James turned to look at Sirius who appeared amused, "What exactly did you do?"
"I didn't do anything," Sirius pointed out. "She just happened to be seated next to Bellatrix on the ride here."
"I don't see the problem."
"Bellatrix has a little crush on Mayalyn," Sirius explained, "She spent the entire time trying to seduce her."
Maya grimaced at the reminder, "Thank you for that."
"But your cousins," James concluded as though they weren't already aware of the fact.
"Interbreeding is common among pure bloods," Sirius reminded him, "And the way Bellatrix acts, it wouldn't surprise me if it's finally driven one of us mad."
"Our parents are cousins," Maya pointed out, "Making us, technically speaking, third cousins as well as brother and sister. And I'm pretty sure our parents are also our second cousins."
Sirius grimaced, adjusting in his seat, "The family tree doesn't really extend very far."
"That's..." James trailed off, clearly trying to mask his distaste at interbreeding, "Interesting."
"Disgusting is more like it," Maya shivered slightly, "And I swear on Merlin, Sirius, if you make me sit next to her ever again-"
"Yes, yes, I know the drill," Sirius waved off, "I won't intentionally let it happen again."
