"Lily?" Maya spoke up as she entered the room. The girl had missed breakfast and Potions. Something was up. As Maya walked further into the room, she saw that there were letters scattered on the floor and she regarded them in confusion.
She picked one up off the floor and, even though half of it was burned off and the words were hard to read, the sentence 'you're a freak' was clearly written on it and she could make out the name 'Petunia' at the bottom.
Maya opened the curtain to Lily's area and entered to find her in a curled up ball in the middle of her bed, "Here are the notes from class today."
Lily pushed herself into a sitting position and she took them with a forced smile, "Thank you."
Maya was about to turn around and leave but she stopped herself. "Tell her to screw herself," she informed Lily simply.
Lily gaped at the girl, the tears no longer flowing but her face stained with them, "What?"
"It's two fairly simple words, when you write it I suggest writing it 'screw you,'" she explained, crossing the room to Lily, "You could even add a good 'xoxo' after for emphasis if you'd like."
"I can't do that," Lily shook her head and Maya sat down on the girl's bed.
"Why?" Maya inquired, "Because it's too mean?"
"She's my sister."
"She's a bitch," she countered and Lily laughed at this. "It's not your fault that you've got magic. Besides, no one like that deserves it to begin with."
"She hates magic."
"No she doesn't," Maya stated, "She hates that you've got something that makes you special and she doesn't have it. She's jealous of you is what it is. And she's a bitch for making you feel bad about yourself."
Lily frowned slightly and Maya could tell that even though the girl knew it was true, she just wanted her sister to be her sister.
"I have an idea," Maya announced, standing up from the bed, "Let's sneak into the kitchen and get ice cream and pastries."
"That sounds like an awful idea," Lily informed the girl.
"No, it's a genius idea."
"We'll get caught," she pointed out.
"No, we will not," she countered, "And you wanna know why?"
Lily eyed the girl warily, "I'm not sure I want to."
"Come on," Maya encouraged, waving the girl toward her, "You won't regret it, I promise."
They made their way down the stairs and Maya turned to face the girl, "Wait down here, I'll be right back."
She then made her way up to the boys' rooms and entered James' area quietly. She crouched down next to his side table and reached up to open the drawer.
There was suddenly a hand in front of the drawer, pushing it closed and Maya cringed as the boy spoke, "What exactly do you think you're doing?"
She looked up at him, plastering on her best innocent look, "Just looking for something."
He shot her a pointed look, "In my nightstand?"
"Yep," she agreed, moving to open the drawer again but he stopped her.
"You were going to steal the map, weren't you?" he accused.
"I wasn't going to steal it," she argued, "I was simply going to borrow it."
"Without permission," he added.
She smiled at him, "Exactly."
He opened the drawer and took the map out. She reached for it gratefully but he moved it out of reach, "Why should I give it to you?"
