Chapter 22

Regulus walked quickly down the gravel path his shoes kicking at the small grands of stone.

It was dark now the clouds covered the moon so the only light was from a small flickering of a lampost at the very end of the driveway.

Tom had told everybody to go straight home after the meeting ended only minutes ago and not to stop to talk to anyone especially not Aurora.

Regulus didnt like the idea of Tom targeting Lily. Lily was one of Auroras closest friends. It would tear her apart, drive her to insanity to know the man she had been bound to for the rest of her life.

As for him, he didn't have much experience with Lily Evan's, she seemed like a nice enough girl. She'd stand up for slytherins James and Sirius would occasionally pick on.

She had even tried to befriend him once but he was quick to push her away due to the guilt he would feel betraying his family.

Sometimes he wished he did portray family, maybe he would be happier. Like Sirius.

And James. Of course the obvious idea was James was not only Auroras friend but also Sirius's.

But what some people didnt know was Regulus himself had an emotional connection to James aswell. James the loud, cocky, confident gryffindor that was loved by all.

His boisterous laughter echoed the halls of Hogwarts as he would walk down triumphantly, in his crimson red quitich uniform. The team behind his screaming his name, his brother by his side laughing with him.

Maybe Regulus began to notice James when he became jealous of him. He wasnt jealous of him for petty things like looks or popularity.

He wanted his attention. He wanted Sirius's attention. He wanted sirius to look at him the way he looked at James. Like a brother.

Regulus remembered that day he saw the gryffindor quitich team walking down the halls of Hogwarts, even the stubborn Lily Evan's was cheering.

Aurora looked to him from his side "I'll see you later Reg" she smiled ruffling his hair fondly before running over to Sirius and James who where both smiling widely glistening from sweat.

Regulus watched as James Pulled Aurora into a tight hug lifting her off her feet as she laughed.

He set her down not taking his hand off her waist and opening his other to reveal the golden snitch twitching in his leather glove.

Aurora laughed and Regulus couldnt hear her voice other the loud cheering of the gryffindors but he was rather gifted at lip reading.

"You sure Jamie? Shouldn't you give it to Lily?" She asked "nah Evan's already got three, I want you to have it Rory" he smiled. Aurora reached up wrapping her hands around his neck hugging him tightly agian and James returned the embrace.

James looked up from Auroras shoudler his bright blue eyes caught on Regulus's. He winked, and regulus felt his cheeks heating up, his stomach did a small somersault, his heart rate increasing much to his supprise.

Maybe that day was the day Regulus realized that maybe.. just maybe he wasnt completely straight. That maybe the reason he would steal sneaky glances at James ever so often wasnt because he wasnt jealous of him, maybe he liked him.

Regulus pulled at his collar nervously, his heart still beating faster the normal from the intensity of the meeting earlier that day the important bits flashing before his eyes in snipets...

"By now you all must be aware of how important that matter I am going to speak of is, as this meeting was crucial and I am aware it is extremely irresponsible to have it take place in the hosue while Aurora is still here but I could not dodge around that and have to take my chances"  Tom announced.
