3. Hey Maki

I didn't bother staying by my lab anymore, everyone already knew that I was different and that I was really just a terrible human, no, monster who kills people.

So I just went to the rooftop and started thinking.

Why can't I be normal? Why can't I have a normal life, or talent. I was trained not to care about this, but...I just want people to look at me for me...not my talent.

"There you are Maki!"

I didn't look back at Kaito as he called for me.
"Maki! I know you can hear me!"

"What do you want? Ask me if I'm gonna kill you?"

"No of course not!! I already know you won't kill anyone! I just wanna talk to you."

I watched him as he came and sat by me.

"Well too bad, I don't want to."

"Well then we can look at the clouds! Isn't nearly as good as star gazing, but they're still pretty cool."

"Look, whatever you're trying to do won't work. Just leave me alone." I said standing up and walking away from him.

"I'm just trying to be your friend!"

"Why?!" I shouted at him, he looked surprised but then just chuckled.

"Why not!"

"You realize that I've probably killed over 500 people. That I'm basically heartless. That I'm a terrible person. That I don't deserve to be alive. That I don't deserve friends! I've had to kill many of friends before. And I've done it so much it doesn't even faze me when I see the body of a friend. So why would you wanna be friends with someone like me?!"

"Because I know that you aren't a terrible person inside."

I stared at him as he said that. I couldn't read his expression.

He didn't look happy, but he didn't look mad either.

He looked like he really truly saw me for me.

"What the hell does that even mean idiot?"

"It means...that I can see past that wall you're putting up."

"I'm not putting up a wall-"

"Maki."

I stared up at him as looked down to me his face slowly forming a smile.
"Let's be friends."

As he said that something hit me. Just the way he smiled at me, and looked at me. It seemed...genuine.

And it made me feel something I've never felt.

"Idiot." I mumbled and left him there on the rooftop.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

I sighed as the doorbell rang immediately knowing who it was.

"What do you want Kaito."
I asked answering my door.

"Let's go train with Shuichi!!" He said before grabbing my hand and dragging me. I simply let him wanting to get over with whatever he wanted to do.

As he led me outside of the dorms I saw Shuichi who seemed to be waiting for us.

"Sorry I'm late bro!"

"It's fine. And you brought Maki with you as well?"

"I'm only here because he wouldn't stop ringing my doorbell."

"Oh, so you're joining us for training?"

"Training?" I asked looking at Kaito who nodded.

"You've gotta stay strong in a killing game!! So training is important!!"

"Have you forgotten that I'm an assassin? I'm already strong enough. I don't need this stupid training-"

"Man, why do you keep running away?"

I looked at him and for once he wasn't smiling. He had a serious expression.

"What do you mean running away?"

"What's your enemy, and why are you letting it scare you. You don't have to tell us, as long as you know what it is, so that you can overcome it!"

Something stopped me from leaving. When he said that. Something in my head told me to stay...I ding know what though.

"Whatever. What are we doing?" I said instead.

"100 push ups!" He said as all of started. I wasn't paying attention to Shuichi's and Kaito's conversation, I counted my push ups out loud ignoring them.

"What about you Maki? 100 might be too hard so-"

"83, 84, 85, 86, 87," I said while he just stared at me.

I finished the last 13 and stood up.
"I'm going back to my dorm."

I tired to go to sleep, but I couldn't get Kaito's words out of head. I couldn't get Kaito out of my head. Everything he said to me.

I just kept thinking about him.

I watched as Maki left back to the dorms.

"She's really strong." Kaito said staring at her.

"Shouldn't you be doing your push ups?"

"Isn't she pretty Shuichi?" He asked me before I realized why he had been staring at her.

He was blushing and smiling.
