4. Maki roll

The sound of my doorbell ringing woke me up. I sighed before getting up and opening it. Of course, it was Kaito.

"Hey Maki- oh. You look tired..."

"I didn't get any sleep. Now what do you want?"

"Well it's almost time for breakfast, but if you need time to get ready take all the time you need!"

"I just wanna sleep Kaito. I'll skip breakfast."

"Nope you can't! It's an important meal!"

"Since when we're you in control of my life?"

"Since I said so! Now get ready so we can go! I'll wait out here!"

I sighed before going to the bathroom and showering. I couldn't help but think about Kaito even more. I couldn't figure out why he kept coming back to me. I've tried pushing him away so much, and he still hasn't given up.

It was strange to me. If I was a normal person I'm sure I would be scared of who I am now. He seemed to not care at all. He wasn't scared at all, and that gave me a nice feeling.

I finished getting ready and sure enough he was there still waiting. It was already almost the end of breakfast so when we got there only a few people were there. It was just me, Kaito, Shuichi, Kokichi, Kiibo, and Miu.

"Oh you're finally here."

"You guys were fucking or what?!"

"What? No. I just woke up late." I muttered a bit embarrassed by what Miu said.

"What about you Kaito?"

"Oh I just waited for Maki roll."

"Maki roll?" I asked at the dumb nickname Kaito gave me.

"If you don't mind me asking, why did you wait for her?"

"A dumb robot like you can't tell Kiibo but it's because he obviously likes that killer girl."

"Hey that's robophobic!!"

"Robots can't even love people can they? So how would you understand-"

"Would you shut your mouth you fucking lair! I'm working on something right now to give Kiibo the ability to love, SO SUCK ON THAT! That way he can actually experience love for me!!"

"Just shut your mouth you little disgusting pig."

"P-pig?!"

They were already on a different topic but I was still shocked by what Kokichi had said. It made my cheeks turn red and Kaito's as well.

"You guys okay?" Shuichi asked us laughing a bit.

"I'm fine."

"I'm just fine bro!"

"OH MY GOD JUST KISS LOSERS!!" Miu yelled suddenly.

Apparently whatever argument Kokichi and Miu were having was over and they had returned their attention back on us.

"Maki and Kaito sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G!!" Kokichi cheered Miu joining him half way. My face turned even redder as did Kaito's.

"Why would I ever like an idiot like him?"

"Well, you're face is pretty red."

"Kiibo is right, yours is too Kaito."

"C-Come on guys! Maki roll here is just my friend! That's it! Right?" He asked looking at me while putting his arm around me on my shoulder.

He smiled at me and my face heated up even more.
I had the perfect view of his face.
His purple eyes, his stubble of chin hair, and his warm smile. I stared at his lips for a moment before shoving him away slightly.

"Just shut up." I said walking away back to my dorm.

I looked over at Kaito who made it pretty clear to me yesterday that he had feelings for Maki. Apparently everyone else could tell to.

"Hey why don't you just tell her-"

"CAUSE HE'S SCARED!!"

"I'll tell her for you Kaito! I can even mention the fantasies you have~"

"I don't like Maki!! She's just my friend!"

I rolled my eyes as he grabbed me and led me to the bathrooms.

"Shuichi why would you tell them?!"

"I didn't tell them, it's pretty obvious-"

"You think she'll find out?!"

"I'm pretty sure she likes you too-"

"Nope! I'll tell her when we escape this killing game together!"

I laughed a bit at Kaito then smiled.
"Yea, we'll escape together, and I'll confess! No way we're dying here." He said.

Kaito skipped out on training again. I don't know why, but I really want him get better soon. I miss him, and I don't know why.

No. I know why. He said to stop running away.

"Hey Shuichi." I started. "It's fine if you don't wanna answer, it's pretty personal, but, did you like Kaede?"

"T-That..." I saw the expression on his face. He was blushing and obviously thinking about it.

"Never mind, it was a dumb question. You can't fall in love with someone you just met...right?"

He looked up at me trying to read my face.
"I think it's possible. I think it's hard to admit at first, but, I believe it's real." He answered.

"Kaito..." I said quietly to myself.

"What was that?"

"Nothing, I'm gonna head back to the dorms." I said and left.

I processed Shuichi's words in my head.

Maybe, it is possible...

I closed my eyes thinking about Kaito again.

I felt this warm feeling ingulf me and I smiled.
"Maybe, I do like him...?" I asked myself.
